I had even thought of using a tampon AND the mooncup. Or should just cancel this session?
Please advise?ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0 -
Great to see so many mooncup users out there... I've had mine for 6 months, and as I have heavy periods its saving me a fortune in organic unbleached tampons and pads! I do find it still leaks occasionally - but usually when I'm having a very heavy day, and have been in a rush inserting it. It's worth taking the time to make sure its in the right place. I've found it invaluable when travelling and exercising (I'd never have managed a 20-mile training walk without it!), although I do find yoga can be a problem, as sometimes it moves.:o
Like a lot of other people, I've found that the cramps and discomfort have disappeared since I started using it, and had put this down to it being lower down than a tampon. However, if pad users are having the same experience, then maybe the correct place for it to sit is an acupressure point?! Anyway, from a money-saving perspective, it's saving on the painkillers (or gin..!) as well as tampons.0 -
i haven't tried the mooncup, but i do use the wemoon pads.....they are much better than disposable pads...
i find disposable pads irritating...probably due to the chemicals contained within...
the wemoon pads are comfortable....they are easy to clean...and saving me money and the environment....i wish i had found these years ago!!0 -
I adore my moon cup! Tampons hurt to use and I was concerned about all the landfill space I was taking up. Never had any leaks. They should be free on the NHS!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Mooncup is fabulous, had mine for about 2 years after reading about on here - thankyou!
I'm off travelling and want to know if there is a tablet form of steralising i can take to keep it hygenic. I know i can boil it but that my not always be possible in hostels etc and i dont want to carry a large bottle of milton round the world. Would the tablets uses for dentures be a good idea or do they have stuff added to them which wouldn't work for the mooncup? I don't fancy a minty one :eek:Ready to Go Go!0 -
Have a look on here, it seems they do sterilising tablets which would seem to do the job.

I bought a box of 60 (i think) cold water sterilising tabs from Boots. I got them online but I think they would be in the baby section in a shop as they were aimed at cold water sterilising of bottles etc, like milton. They are very small with 8 or 12 foil sealed, so you'd only need to take one of the "sheets" of tablets. I also bought a box for dentures from Boots which the mooncup fits in perfectly for when I am sterilising it and I keep it in there in the weeks between using it, that might be more useful for travelling than taking the cloth bag. I only use half a tab of the steriliser each time as the box is so small.
I can't find the exact one I bought on the boots website (it was boots brand) but it was something like this

I'm past using such items but had a "Tulley" for many years. This was back in the late 60s and 70s and must be what is now the mooncup. Found it advertised in She in the small ads and agree it was really good - economical and discreet.0

It's great to know there are lots of other happy mooncuppers out there!
Just for those who don't know, the nice people at mooncup also have a service where you can email them questions through their website.
http://www.mooncup.co.uk/menstrual_cup_contact_us.html
This was useful when I started using it and they can also send you PDF information and they have an email newsletter as well. My boyfriend bought me mine from Glastonbury but looking on the website you can get them from Boots now which is great, I wish I'd known about menstrual cups earlier but thinking back we were all given products by major companies like tampax at school and weren't really told about alternatives, I guess they must be making a lot of money to be able to do that, but when you think about how much a woman must spend over her life on products you can see its worth it for them.
I've used it for a year and already saved money, I didn't realise how much I was spending on tampons and towels each year. Also I have less pain, less dryness and shorter periods and don't mind them so much. I'm really happy that about the eco aspect too, even the organic tampons I was using were wasteful. Although I don't think landfill is used much now, sanitary waste tends to be incinerated and also causes pollution as most workplaces etc pay a company to provide and empty bins and transport the waste. If you Google sanitary disposal you realise a lot of people make a lot of money out of our periods!
I'm really glad I found out about the mooncup, if you're not sure about it I would advise you to contact them via the website and try it for a couple of months, I found it a bit strange until i trimmed the long stalk bit but easier than tampons to get used to and way more reliable. I was worried about public loos at first but you can use a bottle of water to rinse or just wipe it or use the disabled loo which normally have sinks in them.
Stop dreading your periods!

I bought a mooncup about 6 months ago after having read the comments on here - i love it to bits and have converted a few friends already. So thanks for the helpful comments - probably wouldn't have had the guts to get one without having read about a few peoples experiences first and now I'd never go back to tampons!0
