That's what I did in the end! Starting to get used to it now...
  • Having read this thread with interest and intrigue I finally went ahead and bought a Mooncup.
    Found the cheapest from http://www.angeltots.co.uk/ecomenstrual.htm.
    Currently £15.99 plus £1 delivery!

Arrived within a couple of days and luckily my period had just started (never been excited about starting my period until now :o )

I had a bath to help me relax for my first go, sterilised it and put it in with no problems at all to my surprise! The stem did need cutting so i took it out a couple of times and chopped a bit more off until it felt comfortable when walking and sitting down etc. I've probably got about 1cm of stem left just to give me something to pull.

I love it!!! Been using it for the last 5 days and I don't think i'll ever go back to tampons. Although I do find it's worth wearing a pantyliner with it just for any little bits of discharge.

I had visions of CSI type blood spatter  when I took out the cup, but it really wasn't a problem. Found it easier to remove whilst sat on toilet as it helps you to push down.

Also I've not had the painful cramps I usually suffer with, this must be the first month since I started my periods that I've not had to take copious amounts of painkillers! Another bonus!

I just wanted to help reassure anyone that is doing what I had been doing and putting if off...get one, try it and you'll be converted! :j
I may be shy, but that doesn't make me an angel ;)
  • I'm a guy and despite finding the topic of the red dragon very offputing, I am spreading the word of these to a few people. Sound like a great idea. I remember in Slovakia up a mountain the side of the mountain had an open toilet and everything was degrading but the years of sanitary towels and tampons washed across the mountain side.
If I had words to make a day for you,
I'd sing you a morning golden and new.
I would make this day last for all time,
Give you a night deep with moonshine.
  • I have been using my mooncup for 6 months and wouldn't go back to tampons/towels..
They are so easy to use and to empty as well......:T
I got mine with my boots points which I had been collecting for a while so it didn't cost me anything....:rotfl:
Havn't had to change mine in a public loo though....#
    Not looking forward to that...
    Any advice?:o
  • I love my mooncup and I am no eco hippy - was introduced to them by my best mate who has moved to Switzerland and there is big usage of them over there.

I have found it much more comfortable than any other form of sanitary wear.

Would heartily recommend them to any woman

I'm getting rather jealous reading this thread as I so wanted my mooncup experience to be a good one. I totally recommend that everyone should try them - but when I tried one 2 years ago I 'lost' it once and had to spend quite some time in a bit of a panic trying to get it out! Not a nice experience. A 'hippy' friend of mine then said that had been quite a common complaint about them. It put me off completely and I ended up throwing it away when we moved (I know you can send them back for a refund but that just felt weird).

Reading this has reminded me why I was so keen to try it in the first place and i'm wondering if I should buy another one and give it a go!?
  • :T :T Brought one yesterday from boots 19.99 (plus points) and i am really happy. Just had a go with it now and it was soo easy! I was expecting it to be a little difficult but was amazed at how simple it was.

Can't wait to save money with this! :T :T

I seen an advertisement for these in my Boots free mag yesterday, and I'm thinking of giving it a try, thanks for posting.
