bummer, i just picked one up at boots today! oh well, was £19.99 with equvalent of £2 off with bonus points etc, so not bad!

is it worth practising with it before my period, or will that be uncomfortable / difficult?

  • Sorry guys, but haven't the time to read all through these posts- gotta study!

BUT- I would love to know what happens to the blood when you lie down. Does your body resasorb it at all? I emailed the mooncup peeps, but they haven't replied at all.
Any one techie bio minded that would know this?

Also with this 'getting used to it' business, how easy is it to get used to whilst working/ going to uni on a heavy period?!

(I have images of blood splattered cubicles and a very upset female losing her rag!)

I tried putting it in before my period and it was definetely more difficult than once my period had started.

I would want the first few times that I emptied the cup to be in a loo where I felt comfortable, at home. Once you know what you are doing it's fine in a public loo. If you're at work or at Uni or whatever why not using it just in the evenings when you're at home at first?

  • i found it no problem to get used to using it, whilst at work i just went to the toilet more than normal, as was a little unsure how much it would hold, now ive used it a couple of times i ventured into the swimming pool and that was fine too! did wait till i was near the end period but didnt need to worry as it really does not leak or anything silly! its one of the best things ive brought and after only a couple of months its nearly paid for its self, i feel much better knowing there are no chemicals in my body and im doing my bit for the environment at the same time, so glad i found this thread a few months ago.

Cut it off completely, you don't need it, honest. Just by bearing down a bit, you will still be able to get hold of the cup part - it really isn't a problem :)

well, my period did come (on my birthday yesterday!), so tried it out. tried last night, but was rushing and bit tense so couldn't get it right. cut some stem off and sorted it ok this morning! was v impressed - no leakage and v comfy. even managed to dare to go on the big slides at tate modern - not bad for the first day of wearing it!!

    TMI ALert!

had a bit of a hassle trying to get it out....visions of having to go to A&E!! anyway, i obvioudly just didn't pull hard enough! being in a public loo probably didn't help matters! couldn't get it out the first time i tried, so shoved it back up again & tried again later, as decided best not to stress about it! unfortuntely i'd obviously broken the seal the first time, so had a bit of a mess to sort out by the time i got to anyther loo! thank God for the wipes i'd slipped in my bag! i was quite surprised by the amount of blood - it had all gone into the loo, so didn;t see it in the cup, but looked like a lot (i am usually heavy for my first couple of days!

anyway, i reckon i'll get used to it! certainly feel freer than with tampons already!

    Well,
I wasn't sure if to believe that so many people could like a mooncup. Got mine today and thought  it's seems so big.

Anyway, can't believe how easily it fits and is to insert, reckon I could definitely get used to it. I am interested in the question as to what happens to the blood when you lie down? I have endometriosis and so sometimes the blood does go the wrong way up my tubes of its own accord. I wouldn't want a mooncup to encourage this.

Still I can wear it in the day and tampons at night if necessary and I am very very pleased with it, a great investment!! :D
