I'm converted,:j used the mooncup this month, took a little getting used too & sniping off the end but I found it very convenient & comfortable I won't be spending money on tampons & pads anymore, and no nasties in the rubbish either. Thanks for the positive posts and real experiences of the people on this thread. :A
Give it a go its really much less yuk than having used tampons in the bin for up to two weeks (as these shouldn't be flushed) waiting for the rubbish collection.:eek:0 -
on another note, does anyone know of anywhere or anyone trying to raise awareness of mooncups/less use of disposables? a number of my friends have started to mention using mooncups i think it's a case of lifting a bit of a taboo... where are the cheapest? good and back feedback? where can they be promoted cos the littlest things help? where is the best place to campaign I'm thinking not MPs?!...
Can we get an MSE discount somewhere?!?!?!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

ruthiejane wrote:I've wondered the same Mambo. I would guess the ideal would be to have mooncups mentioned as an alternative at 'the talk' given in schools. But I've no idea who actually gives the talk and where to start with making this happen.
When we had 'The Talk' it was given by a nurse that Tambrands sent into schools! Doubt she would have pushed the mooncup - but we did get shown how Tampax soaked up and filled a glass tumbler better than 'Another Well Known Brand'
Don't know who does it now as this was some 25 years ago.

when i was at school (all girls) we were whisked away from the science teacher (male) and given the talk by Mrs Milne who normally taught English. She showed us a contraption with loops and stuff which went round your waist and into which you looped a sanitary pad - nothing else was available apparantly and it scare the life out of us poor impressionable girls. when i told my mum i about it she gaffawed and gave me a proper talk - I'm only 40 btw
stefI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -

My school talk was the same (I'm 37). In fact, if you went to the nurse for 'emergency supplies', it was the very same looped pads they gave you...certainly made you think twice about getting caught without your own supplies
On a slightly different note, I emailed mooncup and they have sent me a stack of leaflets to pass around to friends and a bunch of stickers to put up in loos (with permission of course)

this thread has convinced me to invest in a mooncup - ive been thinking about it for ages. i've currently got quite a lot of tampons to use up from BOGOFs but perhaps they can just be there as a back up. i will see if boots have them today when i go shopping.
any tips on size? it says if you're over 30 even without having had kids you should use the larger size... i'm 29 - don;t want to have to buy another in a year's time...Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
LOL I'd just like to add, if anyone is worried about the mooncup moving/coming out etc, I can report that it's fine, after I tested it in a wind tunnel with a windspeed of around 130mph whipping around my crutch area, and being manhandled by the instructor as I was indoor skydiving last night!!
