Sorry ladies if this has been asked but I just can't read the entire thread...
How is the Mooncup when you have virtually NO pelvic floor muscles?
All tampons just pop out of me (sorry if TMI!)
It's awful, I'd really love to try the Mooncup but worry if I'll dropping it on the floor!

Got my Mooncup this morning and it`s in now,had to cut the stem off it as it was hanging out.Still not sure if I have it up far enough,I cant seem to get it right in properly,or what I think is properly?
It took me 4 goes to get it in and pop open, then walked round to the school to pick up daughter from nursery and I it was tickling me.So came home and re did it and it feels ok,but is really close to the opening? Maybe it`s popping open too quick before i manage to get it all the way in.
Think I`ll phone the helpline number for some advice.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Hi, I haven't time to read the whole thread so not sure if my (what might seem like a silly) question has already been brought up but..... what happens through the night when you're lying flat...does it not dribble out and seep past the edges?"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...
until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it"

I had mine in last night and there was no leakage at all.I am impressed with it so far, even been trying to talk my friends into getting one.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

nah, it doesnt leak overnight because a seal forms between the mooncup and your inside...it fits against it with no gaps
I've been using mine for over a year now and havent leaked once at all, either day or night.
as to getting friends involved...I've tried getting a few to think about it but the initial reaction is always 'eeuw!'...so, after talking to them about it, I tend to email them with the link to mooncup website and also to a couple of threads here on MSE about it, so they can choose to read more about it if they wish, but its when they want to, rather than me forcing a conversation about it.One thing...that sets pulses racing...that gets hearts pounding...for which there is no substitute...only YOU can provide...blood.

i imagine it would be fine. i'm no spring chicken and i get along with it. its a lot wider than tampons at the top (you have to fold it into itself before inserting, then let go when it's in, and it unfolds in the cavity bit above your canal). it's a 'Y' shape and the cup part at the top will be bigger than your canal - also, when it's fitted over your cervix, it creates a seal (not a complete vacuum because of the little holes - you wouldn't want a vacuum though else you'd never get it out again!). if you do try it out you'd need to get size 'A'.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
I've not long had mine but I've found it easy to use....better than having to rummage in your bag whilst at work. I also like the fact that I'm helping the environment whilst saving money!! The only thing I found was I wasn't sure how far up it needed to sit and was too worried about cutting too much of the 'stem' off in case I couldn't reach the darn thing and end up with a Dr in A/E trying to reach it....no thanks!
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is not such a problem with the mooncup as it's the toxins from the (high absorbancy) tampon which allows the growth of the bacteria associated with it (for more info. please see http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000653.htm ), although it is important to keep your mooncup clean to reduce risk of infection (sterilise/boil as suggested) and keep an eye open for signs of any infection (didn't realise this but only around 50% of TSS is linked with menstruation!)"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you have." just had to quickly add in that i love my moon cup, too!! :happyhear have been using for several months now & it's soooo much better than tampons (even the wonderful natracare ones, which are a decent environmentally-friendly alternative for anyone not keen on the mooncup idea - i used to buy mine from natural collection and they're also meant to have a lower risk of toxic shock syndrome than ordinary tampons). i've very rarely had a leak & i wear it all the time when i have my period - during the day & overnight. i have pretty heavy periods & have had no problem, whereas tampons were a bit of a nightmare. i also have fairly shocking pelvic floor muscles (3 children later!) & haven't found that to be a problem. i completely removed the sticky-outy bit at the end (was quite scared - didn't want it getting lost! no problems there, either, thankfully!) & it's been much more comfortable since i did that.
my biggest tip would be if you boil it to sterilise it, don't forget about it!! i managed to go out to walk the dog leaving mine on the boil & had visions of coming home to a burnt-out house & a fireman holding up my charred mooncup in disgust(you'll be pleased to know my house is still standing & my dignity was preserved!)

Yeay. Snazzypants have delivered!
My mooncup is here , just have to wait a week or so to try it out!
Thanks to everyone who has posted about mooncups. I had heard of them but didnt think they were for me. Reading these posts has been inspirational!!:T :T0 -
And another Snazzypants delivery! I also ordered the washable terry towels (in case I don't get on with the mooncup or need backup) and they sent the bright fleecy ones instead of the unbleached terry I requested.. however they do feel lovely and soft so I will give them a go.
I'm eager to try the mooncup but just discovered about a year's supply of Natracare tampons etc stashed under the bedand don't like the idea of them going to waste so I may just have to alternate for a while.
