    You'd think in my job, this wouldn't be a problem for me (I work for a company who services female hygiene products) but how often does it need emptied?? Some of my clients are really narky if you ask to use the loo
    I've only ever emptied mine morning and night, and have a flow heavy enough that I used to use Super Plus tampons the first couple of days.

    I've never once had to empty it in a public loo or at work, and I've been using it a good couple of years.

    Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

  • Wow, who'd have thought that the Mooncup would be discussed on the MSE site?! Fabulous.

    I've had my Mooncup for 2 or 3 years and haven't used a tampon since I bought it. The 3 month money-back guarantee is an appropriate safety net because it did take me 3 months to start feeling comfortable using it - not comfortable wearing it, that was fine (even better once I cut the stem off), but putting it in and taking it out took some teeth-gritting to start with (I found it a bit sore, but put this down to not having sex with men(!) and now I'm used to it and it's easy).

    For a few months I did have problems with the damn thing not opening properly when I put it in. It no longer gives me that problem - I don't know why, maybe I've improved my technique.

    Because it's so comfortable, the main disadvantage is not having a tampon string as a reminder... the longest I've forgetten for is 36 hours, I wouldn't have got away with that with a tampon.

    At work we have a loo that has a sink in the cubicle, when I'm elsewhere I use the disabled toilet if it doesn't need a key, just because it's nicer to be able to wash it out. But it's ok to wipe it with toilet paper when that's the only option (just be careful to take any shreds of paper off before reinserting). And make sure you wash the splashes of pink water off the sink for your colleagues' benefit!

    One of my pals had a Keeper. I think it's made from rubber rather than the Mooncup's silicone. She didn't stick with it because she was embarassed when it made a sucking noise once when she was emptying it in a public loo!

    My advice would be:
    1) stick with it for at least 3 cycles - it does become easy;
    2) follow their advice on trimming the length of the tail as you get used to it;
    3) keep an old toothbrush for giving it a good scrub with soap once a month, it helps to stop the discolouration;
    4) don't be tempted to use disinfectant or antibacterial products on your Mooncup - think about where you're putting it and therefore where the residue will end up.

    It's great to read posts from so many other Moooncup users. Thanks for sharing.
  • Well, first period with it and I must say that I am very impressed!! I suffer with really heavy periods and have had to use the super super tampons in the past and even had to change these every couple of hours, but this is great!! So far so good!!! Really glad I got the guts up to use it. This has been the most pleasant period I've ever had (if that's at all possible!!) in the 11 years I've been having periods!!

    Purpleprincess, glad to hear it. That was the thought I had the first time I used it too, and I'd been having periods for a lot longer than 11 years! I can't believe all that time is wasted. Could be just in my head, but I'm a lot less bloaty and not getting any period pains at all. Most of the time I don't even remember I'm having my period - compare that with wearing a tampon or a towel!

    Those of you sitting on the fence, get off now - you might be pleasantly surprised! :p

    :p Oh exactly!!! I normally have AWFUL periods, doubled over in pain sometimes and really bloaty but this time, nothing!!! Some days I too have forgotten that I am "on"!!!!!!! And I can't even feel the cup and once you get the hang of it it is really simple to use!! Can't believe I've known about this for nearly 4 years (since the age of 18) and I've only just tried it!!!! Definitely, those on the fence, jump off now!!!!!!! :D

    it's brill best thing i have ever bought lie. i suffer with heavy periods and i find the mooncup really clean. i also find normally that i leak in the night wearing tampon so have a few nights broken sleep. now i put in mooncup and forget i've even got my period until morning. i don't dread my period coming now. it took about 2-3 cycles until i was confident putting in and pulling out and i have trimmed the stem right down.
    i can't recommend enough.

    ok i'm convinced. But as i am skint i'm going to wait until i have enough piggypoints to get a £20 boots voucher. Only 940 points to go :D

    I'm actually looking forward to it how wierd is that.
    This might be too much info but i get terrible build up of fibres from tampons and i'm sure this causes my stomach cramps the week after. Did anyone notice them coming out once they started using the mooncup? Or is it just me that gets lumps of cotton emerging the week after my period?

    Sounds like you were using a higher absorbancy than you needed or changing too soon after inserting. Those days will be over once you have your Mooncup :D

    Do you ave some advantage points that you can use for your Mooncup? After all, you're spending money on disposable stuff until you buy one.
    Just run, run and keep on running!

    No i only have about a fivers worth of points. Haven't been using boots much lately as i find it quite expensive.

    It wont take me long to get the points i hope and i have enough nasty tampons for next cycle. Maybe i'll try a beaker instead lol
