    Thanks, used this voucher last time. Got a voucher that was around for free eye test, then got these glasses and wearing them as I type. Fantastic pair only downside is that they are a tiny bit small for my head, is there anyway of making them a little bigger if I order again?
    Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives

  • thankyou Ogtroff this is handy - employer has given me free eye test voucher and I will try the site for specs - hope there will be some left after Martins announcement!

    go to a site where it shows you the measurements of the glasses...the width of each eye just needs to be a bit bigger.....use the measurements from the glasses you have and add some!................i hope i have not confused you :confused:

    um......could it be that they thought you should be buying the glasses from their firm, and helping to cover their costs for having a high street shop?

    ;)

    They are getting paid for doing an eye test one way or another anyway.

  • probably need a good clean i get that on my expensive ones its just grease that hasn't been wiped away cleanly my mum always used to wash her glasses with a small bit of washing up liquid and let them dry on kitchen paper. i do this too this way you dont smear the glasses when cleaning with a cloth as much

    I find having a friendly barmaid in the local pub helps, she puts our specs in the glasswasher and they come out better than new.

    plus it is an excuse to:beer:

    What you pay to have your eyes tested (if anything!) doesn't come anywhere near to covering the actual cost of an eye test. The tests are subsidised by the opticians on the basis that they offset the loss against making some profit from customers buying glasses. They are not a charity there to provide you with a free eye test, free PD measurements etc that you then take elsewhere to buy specs. Thats how they make a living and feed their families.

  • Just asking about some information as my eyes are worse than the -6.00 in the description does anyone know of anywhere else to try?

    I have tried Googles4u.com which are very cheap but i have a detailed prescription and they struggle to meet my specification. When e-mailing my complaints to them they were very helpfull and did replace them with a further 2 pair of glasses but yet again were close but not correct.

    So now i am stuck between paying £388 for a pair from a high street retailer or trying Google4u again.

    Thanks MSE

    Sounds like the finger should be pointed at something wrong with the industry pricing model, rather than customers being blamed for looking to get the best deal where they can.

    Not blaming customers. Just correcting the person that said that the Optician is not losing out as they have been paid for the eye test and educating those who seem to be querying why the optician won't give happily their professional time to take free measurements for them to buy their glasses elsewhere!

    As with most things in life you get what you pay for.

  • I just ordered 2 pairs, i must have 10 pairs now! all cheapies that i prefer to my expensive optician bought ones....after reading through the forums i have bought my SO (high prescription) some goggles4u glasses, optician price £500 and they only charged £43, so I have taken a gamble......with the money i saved i want to turn my brown eyes green (is that a song?) they make my eyes have a nice greeny tint, so i like them but they are not totally green just brown with a hint of green, i have changed my contacts to daysoft now as they are just as good as the others ,imo, and half the price of the cheapest

    ps...yes! i do go on, dont i? :rotfl::rotfl:
