Completely understand your concerns, however these are the rules of eBay. And I thought eBay could only get you on shill bidding if an account bidding on your item had the same IP address as the seller...?

Shill bidding has nothing to do with ip addresses usually, the accounts just need to be connected. Unusual patterns are easy to pick up now as there are tools that enable buyers to spot shill bidding (they are often mentioned on here). I have work colleagues that ebay, it would be shill bidding if I arranged to bid on their items to push prices up, or likewise if they bid on mine even though our ebay accounts are personal to our home addresses and we don't log in at all at work.

Thanks Soolin for you help and advice.

I really wasn't shill bidding though ( well, not strictly speaking ) I didn't want to push the price up, I wanted to WIN the item so I didn't have a contract for an item I didn't have !

I understand that you couldn't sell something you didn't have, and you did right to contact the bidders, but I wouldn't have got anyone else involved.
I would additionally have put in the graphics "no bids will be honoured, any payments will be returned" then let the auction run its course.
Anyone stupid enough to actually bid, win, and pay needs to learn how to read!
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

I only put, ( in big f*ck off letters !) Please do not bid. There is an error in the listing but Ebay won't let me end early.

Christ knows how people could see it ! Even the bidders who I contacted were still bidding right until the end !

I just did what I thought was the best thing to do in the short time I had left. Life and learn eh !

Couldnt you just have cancelled all bids before the end of the auction? Not sure what the procedure is these days for cancelling bids but you certainly used to be able to cancel any bids.

I wonder if bidder were using sniping software of sorts and left it to it.

I don't wish to take this off topic but surely eBay wouldn't know about you asking work collegues to bid on your items. Although I accept that this is a form of shill bidding, proving it would be mighty difficult if your collegues were using different computers and different connections....unless of course you got 1 or 2 collegues to bid on all your items..in which case it would be obvious...

I wouldnt hold out much hope of getting your account running again for quite some time.
my sister had her account suspended, apparently a rival seller didn't like the competiton, and reported her for something. She had to prove she actually had the items and it took over 4 MONTHS to have her account reinstated and she was completely innocent.
Ebay seem to have one speed and its slower than a tortoise!
