The only posts I ever do not like on there are the 'pet' ones. There are numerous ones on my local freecycle right now and it reads like they don't care where they go as long as they do. I just often wonder if these little pets ever end up in good homes, or just being past around when people get fed up of them.

We had someone on ours offer a little 1 year old west highland terrier. We replied (on best friends behalf) and 12 months on he's a happy well loved little monkey. Playful, loving and a beautiful temperament. My best friend and her husband don't have any children so he's spoilt rotten and wants for nothing.

Hope that helps reassure you that at least 1 little guy ended up in a loving forever home :)
  • :) Ive never had used FreeCycle, my mum always threw the furniture away or donated good clothes. Im going to start using this service. Sounds great.

If you want to get something fromm freecycle, do you have to go and collect it?
  • Yes Dreamkitty if you are selected by the person offering the item
it will be up to you to collect the item offered.
You can find your local Freecycle group here:

Just a word of caution if I may. I have had some success using Freecycle/Freegle in the past, so I'm not saying it's all bad by any means.

In my case, however, I've had five successive people not turn up or change their minds when collecting what I've advertised. It hasn't been tat, but that's not the point anyway.

What concerns me is how often you're expected to give out your address and when you'll be in...sounds like a burglars dream to me. After I had two people not turn up I got suspicious and then said I'd only give out my details when they'd said a specific time when they wanted to come.

Even if I'm being overly-cautious or paranoid, I hope this helps someone.

Indeed. Now you know why we don not allow personal details on the group board! (well we don't anyway)
Can you imagine how unsafe that would be?!

I trade in what must be the STRANGEST thing on freecycle, but it's saved me a fortune of getting rid of it myself and it saves the collectors an absolute fortune!!

Freecycle has saved me hundreds of pounds and I've been advertising the same stuff of there for 18 months now and got a good group of collectors, easily up to 30 collectors, 10 being regulars now :rotfl:

Bet you're all wondering now :p

I offer.... Horse Manure!!!! :rotfl::T Joys of having horses, someones gotta have it!!!

I've tried notices down round allotments, but no-one is ever interested... FREECYCLE you are our savour!!
  • Would I be right in thinking that the nasty herbicide, which goes straight through horses, has worked its way out of the system (the manufacturer withdrew supplies from the UK market) ?

A couple of years ago horse manure could be a good way of making your your tomatoes fall over.

I've given away lots and luckily received quite a bit. I do get a bit miffed when I see things selling locally on e-bay and I've seen them on freecycle the week before. Youngest son is now hooked on freecycle, he picked up a laptop yesterday afternoon which was less than 2 years old - it was supposed to be broken but he had it up and working within 2 hours, he was chuffed to bits as he only has a 7inch net book (which he's freecycled on !).
