Does anyone know if it's OK to offer foodstuffs on Freegle? I always have loads and loads of surplus fruit/veggies from the garden and would much prefer it to be used rather than end up on the compost heap. Can't remember ever seeing anything similar posted in my area.
Sorry if OT
were allowed to give food stuffs away, i freecycled some butternut squash last yr as i was completly over run!!0 -
Yes, I've asked for and received excess fruit/veg before for chutney making. Mine is the Bristol group.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

we have given away fridge, shower screen, huge bag of bits and pieces of a charity jumble. We have received chrome bunkbeds, super king size bed and mattress, chest of drawers.
Its a fantastic way to recycle.0 -
Always amazes me what people offer on Freecycle.
Some things are really expensive if you actually had to buy them!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
I freecycled my kitchen units! They were very dated and a bit tatty but I had a few people want them, even after I sent them photos. The winning bidder came and dismantled them all and took them away. Saved me about £150 in hiring a skip and a lot of work
. I also freecycled the old, scruffy fridge and freezer which the council would have charged me to collect. Very MSE, good for the environment and it made some people happy too.

I freecycled a wheelbarrow that had been leftover after my house was built (already had a small garden one), a huge freezer, fabric, wrought iron lamps, old laptop and an old non-working laptop that was to be nailed to a desk for a stage show!
in return I got paint, lamp shades, a fridge, portable tv, DVD player, freeview box, facial sauna, bookcase x 2, fire wood, books and craft stuffCC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
It has been asked why the change to Freegle from Freecycle over here in the UK. Well, I hope I can put this on here? All what I will say is true and legally verifiable.
I started out as a moderator on a local group called Walsall Freecycle. In a very short time I was made up to co-owner. This group ran very well for a few years despite us all hearing of upset in the USA with various Freecycle groups and breakaways from the 'The Freecycle Network'. I, together with a few other upset and like minded people around the world decided to set up a Yahoo group dedicated to Freecycle owners and moderators, we called it the 'International Freecycle Modsquad'. It was only ever intended as a safe secure place to discuss good practise and how to move forwards in Freecycling. Sadly, the managment of 'The Freecycle Network' in the USA were unhappy about this group and they accused us of having a person on board as an owner who had 'bad mouthed' the found of the organisation. This was absolutely not true and this was acknowledged publicly by the founder. Trouble is the founder had already demanded that I hand over all control and running of Walsall Freecycle to others in the organisation. This demand did not cease even though he admitted that we were doing nothing wrong and we did not have this other person on board; she was not even a member of the group. At this stage I took Walsall Freecycle and renamed the group Walsall Freeworld-Recycling. This was, together with some other unpleasantness, the catalyst that meant a mass migration away from the control of the US led Freecycle Network and the creation of Freegle.
Today, we in Freeworld-Recycling and Freegle to whom we are affiliated, run our groups totally locally and to suit our local members. We are much more relaxed in running the groups and it is fun once again.
If anybody has any problems with their local groups please let somebody know either at Freeworld-Recycling or Freegle. Ask if you are not sure who to turn to, I'll always do my best to help as will others in our movement. All we want to do is help to prevent the relentless filling of holes in our countryside and to help others in our communities as well.
Everything I have said in this post is legally verifiable, there are no embellishments and no lies but if it is deemed an unsuitable post I offer my apologies.
Take care all.

I've given away a fridge freezer that I was given but didn't need and when I needed one about six months later I got a fridge freezer that looked brand new. I don't think I have a lot of things in my house that I paid for. Not all of it came from freegle/freecycle, some of it came from the local dump. It amazes me what people throw away, especially when you live in a rich area (but are poor yourself), the pickings are great!0

I stopped visiting the group due to work commitments. But, here is my story. I was offered a car with no tax but has got 3 months MOT. Owners where about to let go to the tip after the council issued a notice to this effect. This was April 2006.
Almost 5 years later and over 50,000 miles, I am still running the car!
However, I might have to make a hard decision in October when the MOT runs out! It will be a sad day, as I really got attached to this car.
Happy Freecycling!Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
We got a cabin bed with a futon beneath and the guy even delivered it for us, we also recieved coats and clothes for my children when we were first made homeless, freecycle as helped us immensly set up home in emergency housing and I am sure we will continue to recycle with them when we get back on our feet... a huge thumbs up from me x0
