We are in the dont give a toss society where people do what they like and sod anyone else.

I disagree, I think we are in a society that thinks other people should not do things that they themselves don't like.

Chimenias (sp?)...oh yes, light one up,fuel it with logs and fill other peoples houses full of the smell of smoke.
They get to sit out on a warm Summer/Autumnal evening but everyone else has to shut their doors and windows and take their smoked washing in.

I agree, but at least there's a 50/50 chance the wind will blow the smoke away from your house.

What is far worse is those b*ggers in cars! They don't start the car and leave it in their drive to let the wind carry the pollution it to you. No, they come out hunt you down, and they hunt in packs! Every time I go out my house there are hundreds of them driving down my street, all belching out pollution without a thought for me.

But do they pollute their own house? No, I know that as soon as they get home they switch their engines off!! They don't have to keep their windows closed because their car is belching out pollution. Yet they don't seem to mind driving past my house so I have to keep my windows shut!

    How inconsiderate is that?

I'm getting some old tyres together and next time,i'll set fire to them in my garden.

You go for it, if you've got one neighbour anoying you then make the whole street suffer. People should be taught that they can't do perfectly legal things in their own garden if you don't like it!

    ;)
  • Not really, but your OH needs to learn some manners.

What's wrong with that? He has a perfect right to light a BBQ in his garden.

All he said was "we will be lighting bbq in ten minutes and your washing is still out" it is you who is taking it in an offensive way.
If he spoke to me like that on my property I'd kick the !!!!!! up the !!!!.

That's the problem, people get their own property and think everyone must treat them like gods.

How would you have reacted if he'd said that to you as you were walking down the street to your home?

Or, how would you have reacted if he'd just lit the BBQ and not bothered warning you? Which he is perfectly entitled to do.

I'm guessing it was his closing remark that attracted the comment.
    My TV is broken!

  • She is the selfish one.

Vegetarians aren't selfish, they are morally superior to us meat eaters and expect to be treated with the reverence they think they deserve.

PS. The above was aimed at the 10% of Vegetarians who fit the bill and not the other 90% who would not even dream that they were superior to anyone else just because they choose to not eat meat.
  • I'm guessing it was his closing remark that attracted the comment.

Maybe it could have been phrased better, but it depends on how it was said (something we don't know).

I could ring someone's door bell and say that to them many ways. I could say it in a way that made them think they were doing me a favour by taking their washing in. Or I could make it sound like I was doing them a favour by letting them know I was lighting a BBQ while their washing was out. Or I could make it sound like I was ordering them to get their washing in.

People don't react to what you say, they react to the way you say it.

Garden fires are a nuisance to the fire Brigade too - they get called out to soo many, because people from a distance see the smoke etc. Even if they have been notified of it, if they receive a call, they will have to attend as it could have spread or whatever, but probably still just a "harmless" pile of burning leaves when they get there.

That's true, if people stopped having garden fires we could probably put 20% of all firemen on the dole. That would bring our council tax down a bit.

My neighbour puts the light in their lounge on when it gets dark Oh the light polution! They use their toilet and then flushes it and it sends the Sh*t down the sewer out side my house! and don't get me started on the dust they create when their skin cells die and fall off all over the place!!

    Talk about inconsiderate neighbours!:rotfl:

There used to be some sort of byelaw about not lighting up until after 6pm (but I may be imagining that). I certainly don't think bonfires should be lit when its very window.

There is no bylaw to say where and when you can have garden bonfires. There is guidance to say you should avoid windy days and inform your neighbours first but there is little you can do if someone lights a bonfire just as you put your washing out.
The only things that are illegal is burning waste from a business or for money. Or burning anything that will cause smoke pollution such as plastic, sofas etc... Or having regular bonfires.
Sadly people do what they want and screw everyone else. Even the people who don't think they do this in life I bet there is something they have done which was selfish and caused problems for other people.
