OK peeps, take a look at these:

    http://www.am-online.com/news/story/Block-exemption-when-will-we-know-what-the-future-holds/42901132

    http://www.cecra.eu/en/publications/documents/BROCHUREBER.pdf

It looks like block exemption is broken into two parts. One is the dealers and manufacturers relationship, the other is the aftersales market. The latter is what Jeannie has been whimpering about :p

At the moment it seems like it'll be renewed although I've not read both articles fully yet. There are arguments from all sides in the above article (the am-online one) including the independent garages association.

The below article however says that competition is fierce so there is no argument for greater regulation.

    http://pr.euractiv.com/press-release/communication-block-exemption-regulation-acknowledges-strong-competition-automotive-se

Confusing contradictory articles from both sides... if anyone feels like making sense out of recent developments feel free to do so :o

I don't understand why Europe are f4nnying around so much and don't just keep the Block Exemption in place! They've had this for years and years in the States and Japan. Its only in Europe that it is causing such hassle.

I've also heard that the Germans and a few others do not want it renewed.....

I'm guessing by "Germans" they mean the (many) German car manufacturers as opposed to the German people, since consumers there face the same future as consumers here if block exemption is lifted.

:o Yup - sorry wasnt very clear there........

Can you imagine telling the Americans that they didn't have any choice anymore and had to do what they were told? :rotfl: They'd go mad.

But we are not in the States or in up to the minute Japan! We are stuck in Europe with a load of bureaucrats in Brussels! We don't stand a bl**dy chance! And you have to remember, we are the new third world........ It was predicted!! :rotfl:

Martin said that MSE were doing something - I've got a couple of days off so will try and find out if there is any more info and if MSE has as yet reported on it - I've not seen anything but I've not been on here much lately. :o

Just had a look at the R2RC website, everyone who drives should be concerned when attempts are made to reduce healthy competition between dealers and independents.

Good comment - but it's not making this thread any livelier! Seems to me that majority of drivers are unaware of how this will hit them. Either that or it is complacency.

Anyone know of any updates? I've been a bit busy and not had a chance to check it all out... :o

I went on r2rc site yesterday but :ogot baffled by the gobbledegook.. Martin did say that MSE would do something on it, and it is very possible that I have missed it. Info would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
