How many consumers really understand what it will mean if this is not renewed next year??
Who actually cares enough to do anything about it?
Why do we in this country just sit back and nod and agree and accept when we are given another bum deal?
If BER is not renewed next year, I will at least know that I have done my bit personally and for my company too! I'm just a bit fed up with others being 'resigned' to 'what will be will be'.
I've actually emailed Quentin Willson - cos thought this needed 'a voice' from the media to speak up for us car owners - not heard anything back - as yet.......... I live in hope. The other 'voice' I thought would be good to speak up, would be Martin! He fought the banks etc. - can he take on the European lot too???
I feel quite strongly about this - you probably can tell... If BER is not renewed, it could mean alot of people's livelihood would be at stake - independent garages, motor factors, the folks that make car parts etc., RAC & AA possibly too. The consumer would be up the creek, having to go to dealership for servicing under warranty again, plus any diagnostic problems too - as the intention is to hold back all the information from independents....

well done jeanie, im glad to see your making a stand about this.
unfortunatly people wont actually care about this until it personally affects them.
we need a visionary like you to lead us! :T :kisses3:...work permit granted!0 -
There may be a more appropriate section to post this in to grab Martin's attention, or maybe he would respond to a short concise to the point PM? I doubt someone like Quentin would speak out to say anything bad about car MFR's myself, even if it is for the nation's benefit.
Unfortunately I suspect the reality is as GS says, if enough people moan once the exemption is gone, then maybe it will be reinstated.0 -

What is needed is a 'big media mouth'! Which is why I thought of Quentin Willson - he seems to be quite confrontational against the goverment which is good....
I also sent letters to MP and MEP's - apparently, in our little area in Essex. we have SEVEN MEP's!!!!!!!!!! You can download letters etc from the r2rc site.
It would seem that it will be those in Brussels that have the say, don't quote me tho, cos I really am just trying to get my head around all of this!Genie

But how long will it take for it to be reinstated? Alot of our customers - especially the new ones, have only just learnt about the Block Exemption - and then I have to say, well actually, yes it is good - but by the way, it runs out next year.......
I'd heard that Quentin quite likes to take on the government, which is why I went for him first - tho, thinking that I would like Martin to go for it!!
'If enough people moan when the exemption is gone' - it will be far too late. And all we do in this country is moan. Moan and no action and wonder why we don't get any results! At least I am trying. Everyone tells me how trying I am....

Visualise this forum in a year or two's time.....
Threads with folk complaining that they can't go to an independent for servicing whilst car under warranty and having to pay a fortune - or folk complaining because they are forced to go back to the dealership for diagnosis & repair due to the fact that independents are not allowed access to this information any more. Folk complaining of the extortionate prices that they have to pay............ cos you won't have any choice whatsoever.
Those in 'power' say that they will bring in other 'rules' etc.... yeah right, but why go to all that hassle and expense to bring in other 'rules'? Why not just renew the BER?Genie

I must admit, the "news update" on your link is totally meaningless to me, but doesn't the lastest update
http://www.r2rc.co.uk/home/images/r2rc/eu_press_release.pdf
suggest that the proposal is to renew it, or if not, can you translate the release into something I can understand.
This isn't a dig at you, it's probably me, but it is a genuine request, as I know you work for an independent, and can tell us what is really happening.0 -

I just clicked on that link and my pc froze!!!! But the little I saw of it meant 'b' all to me to! I must admit I am struggling to find out the latest as to what is happening, which is frustrating, may be Brussels are keeping it all under their hat.
I work for an independent garage - but that doesn't give me any insider information at all. The people that would know, I guess, would be MEP's and probably car manufacturers - and I doubt that they would tell you and I what is going on! That would not benefit their cause. But I feel that the consumer should know what is going and I strongly feel that people should be allowed to have a choice. I am not anti dealerships, believe it or not, but I do believe in competition, where there is competition the consumer will get a good deal. No one wants to get ripped off!Genie
