hey folks i got van ins. last july but after 3 months the broker said the insurers were now cancelling the policy, due to my occupation, photographer, which was the same at the enquiry when they first sold me the policy as it was when it was cancelled.
i told them i'd only expect to be charged pro rata? for the period i was covered, the brokered agreed as it was through no fault of my own the policy was being cancelled. the refunded the amount agreed.
so today i get a letter ask for £ 50 that the insurers have charged them and deducted from the payment made to the broker, now the broker is looking for me to pay this. they say i was given the wrong figure at the time.
what are my rights in this case.
the information i gave at the time of purchase was them same when it was cancelled. i just don't understand how they can take my details, agree a policy and then 2/3 months later decide that they can't insure me due to my job? you would think they'd know that before i purchased the policy.
anyhoos, am i liable for this short term cover charge.
thanks.0 -
Technically you still have to pay a time on risk charge, but complain. Follow the correct procedure (ask them for a copy of their complaints procedure in writing) and threaten to go all the way to the FSA. In 8/10 cases they will back down once the FSA is mentioned and do all they can to please you.0

The ombudsman is the one you want to mention first - the company will be charged £500 for the cost of the investigation, even if they find in the insurer's favour.... that usually has the insurance company doing whatever you like...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. thanks for that, it did state on the letter a referral to the t&c's leaves me liable to pay it. it just stinks that they sell you the policy and then decide to cancel after i've paid for it, through no fault of my own. but i have to foot the costs of it.
but great the ombudsman route will definitely be mentioned then £50 from me or £500 to the ombudsman.
i waiting on them to get back to me, i ask to get all the specific details as to why it was cancelled and why they sold the policy in the first place if they couldn't cover me van.0 -
well folks no need to mention the ombudsman! the broker phoned today and said they mananged to egt it written off!! so happy days!! guess it wasn't worth their while !0

Looking for a quote for a high top transit van, only used for social purposes. Moneysupermarket dont seem to quote for vans.
Van is only used once a week - probably less than 1000 miles a year.
Any suggestions who to try?
Thanks0 -
