    I have friends who moved straight in with partners after living with their parents, and as such have never learnt to fully manage their own life... A lot of them wouldn't have a clue how to run a house, cook, clean, manage finances etc.

    I've lived in my own for the past 3 years and I see it as great life experience... of course I would like to be in a loving relationship, but I no longer feel I have to be to survive... and if/when I do meet someone I'm able to take me experience with me... little things like not having to be nagged to do things - I know why a house needs to be kept tidy etc because I have to do it now

    I had 6 weeks alone whilst we overlapped our houses (they stayed in the old house and I had the new one till completion)

    I could eat what I wanted when I wanted, so no fitting in with their timetables and not thinking about what they wanted. I could have foods they didn't like and not have the family meal to cook every night.

    Less laundry, I did the washing every two weeks and there was very little or no ironing.

    Going out and being able to relax when I got home

    The place stayed tidier as well

    I slept really well during that time as well

    I saw them once/twice a week and it was great.

    We have our rooms where we can work, watch TV alone, have slob days, get up/goto bed when we want, have our own loos/showers.

    We have special evenings in our lovely kitchen/lounge/diner - it feels like going out, even more so if we get a takeaway. So we save money on eating out. It is a good room to have family and friends round.

    We have the best of both worlds, so if we want a night alone, then we say good night earlier.

    We got inspiration from all this from staying in hotels.
    An average day in my life:hello: :eek::mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :p :eek::mad: :beer:
    I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.

    I've done both lived alone for 4 years and now live with hubbie, son and dog...and the only thing i miss from being single with own place is not having to wear earplugs at night due to hubbies snoring :D Everything else i can live with, sometimes not that easily...coz i love em :p
  • I have been single nearly all of my life and TBH I'd say I'm made that way. When I was growing up I was never all that interested in boys, well, not the way my friends were - and I never got round to developing an interest in sex :o Also, I remember how as a teenager I looked forward to independence, and how much I loved it once I got it. I'm emotionally and financially independent, and despite a very busy social schedule I feel I have a very peaceful and contented existence, if that makes any sense.

    I enjoy the company of men, in fact most of my friends and former housemates are male and some of them are lovely, but I don't particularly want to be sharing my home or my bed with one long-term.

    I'm really happy with my life, but a lot of people wouldn't be - it's just the person I am. Who knows, one day I might meet somebody, but I'm not looking :)

    There's another thread on this subject here.
