Toto - congrats! I have a student MW following me from beginning to end (haha) and she's lovely. I like the thought that two people are taking care of me, plus I know I'll have her at the birth so even if the MWs on the ward are busy I've got 1 person looking out for me. I think it's important that she's not afraid to ask for help from the MW when she's uncertain which is better than bluffing to save face (not implying you will, but some might!) - but at the same time is confident when talking to me IYSWIM? I suppose most stuff is pretty brainless - i.e., being respectful of privacy, being diplomatic, not pushing an agenda, etcetc.

You are her case study :) we all have to 'pick up' a lady (always sounds wrong when I say that :rotfl:) and follow her, go to all of her appointments etc and write it all up in our portfolio. I'm looking forward to that because you really get to know someone that way.

It's funny, I've had 4 kids, I know lots of pregnant women. A year ago I was on this thread boring everyone rigid with my niggles. But now, suddenly I'm feeling pretty nervous about going out there into community and actually being around pregnant folk... you all scare me lol :D

  • Hey all,
I've looked up the Maternity allowence things online and I'm pretty sure I will qualify for it. Plus as my partner is self employed and we already recieve some benefits I should be able to qualify for various other benifits and grants etc so I will actually be better off I think.
I know my boss shouldn't be giving me threats etc but I'm honestly not strong enough to fight her. She isnt one to make idle threats either and I've seen her push several people out there jobs around me. Some people are just evil I guess.

Aless – how about trying some “getting baby in the right position” stuff in preparation, on all fours and rotating your bum kind of stuff to try and ensure baby is in the best position possible. Then at least if you do find out later you know you have still tried everything you can?

Gymfriend – that’s so lovely your OH proposed in Barcelona!! Once things have settles with baby etc we would like to go just for a couple of days for a break.
Can’t believe you have your names picked out already! Although you may well change your mind when you see his / her face!

    Somn Tahlie is lovely!

Lou – I felt like Tic Tac was jumping up and down last night and was worried at one point that he was gonna jump on my cervix and fall out ha ha!!

Gill thgat sucks about your manager telling people. My boss did the same to me, when I was only 6 weeks! I only told him because I should have been leaving in September so wanted to be up front and say I was no longer going. The people kept coming up to me and congratulating me. Made me angry!

Jennynoo – yes 500 cals a day you use BFing apparently! Whoop whoop! All the more reason for me to do it I reckon – I love eating!! Ha ha!
And I like the name Natalie Erin!

Lou – so sorry about the car overheating L Hope you can sort something out and it won;t cost you too much. Grrrr at your OH

Anyway, leaving work now so will finish catching up at home!!!

Sounds like good news on the benefits front Fishcake :)

Toto - how great that you're training to be a midwife! I've had a different student in each time I've gone to see the MW and haven't minded at all, though they were always very young so I think it'd be wonderful to have someone a little older that had already had babies :)

Sorry about your mum Helen :( It must be really hard...imagine if baby did arrive on her anniversary, it'd be like a gift from her to you to brighten up an otherwise sad day :) (sorry maybe you'll think I'm nuts but I really believe this kinda thing!)

SJ we've had names picked for ages :D Girls name was almost immediate and we've never discussed it again as we both love it & discovered it's the name of my great grandma which confirmed it was perfect :) Boys name we're still not 100% on, probably change lots before baby arrives, & middle name is after my mum for either a boy or a girl (weird name) so fairly easy really!!

I really shouldn't be left on my own - I've spent a fortune today...whoops! Got pressies for OH, a couple of little bits for sis for Christmas, some books for myself, toys for the cats...really seriously don't need these things! Have also been pricing up lots of lovely things for baby...seem to get distracted when looking at important things like cot etc and start looking at the lovely toys...
    Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j
