Spud how about taking up walking together. Lou and her OH did to help weight loss and to spend quality time together and I remember her saying how much close her and OH had become. Would give you something to do together, spend no money and would give you some quality time...even if its only an hour!

Right, I've made a cup of sleepy tea (honeybush & lavender) so shall take it to bed, read a chapter of my book and drift off to sleep. Have a nice weekend if I don't get on (though I probably will at some point)

Beanie, it's not an actual amount (although there's a limit to how much they'll pay for), they just provide equipment. For part time the maximum allowances are up to £5k for equipment (I'm going to ask for a laptop and bed sit up cushion thing so I can study in bed), up to £15k for a helper (which I don't need as I don't go to lectures) and then there's something for general needs, which I'm not sure what it is! The maximum is for students with the highest need, but they should cover what I want/need. I had one when I was at 'real' uni and I got a laptop (which died after 18 months), funding for a footstool which was never delivered, a minidisc recorder, and an ergonomic keyboard. I thought I'd also been awarded funding for a notetaker, but it turned out it was only for a helper to get me between classes. One of my big arguments with them was that I needed a way of getting notes when I wasn't well enough to get to classes. Notetakers only take notes with you there, and when I asked about another student recording them for me I was told it was a health and safety issue!!! But I'll shut up now, I could go on forever about how crap the support there was. If only real uni had the pastoral support of the OU, or the OU had the academic support of a 'real' uni...
