    excellent news tig xxxx

Spud - i was with a heavy drinker for 13 years.

Towards the end (last 2-3 years) he got pretty nasty with me (physically) twice as well as the nightly scowling, nasty looks and generally being a 'horrible drunk'.

I tried every angle to help him but down but it just didn't work. I was nice, I was harsh, I said 'please cut down', I mentioned his health, I mentioned the cost, I went out (a lot) so I wasn't the problem, I stayed in (because going out was the problem), I told him to buy expensive but cherish, I cried........none of it helped. He didn't even know he had been that awful to me until I told him the next day. He was mortified. He said he'd cut down. He didn't.

It's part of the reason we split (as well as money) and although he has cut back, he is probably still on a bottle of wine per night. He's a lovely guy, really lovely, but I'm afraid drink is his mistress :(

Thanks for sharing that hun :grouphug:
sorry Spud, I think I've got hold of the wrong end of the stick.....I thought you had a friend who was struggling with alcohol..........I apologise as obviously I don't mean that anything in my relationship was remotely like the situation with your DS.....

It's DH that is horrible after a drink, so your situation is very relevant. Nothing physical so far, just verbal. He lays one finger on me or the kids and he's out on his arse :o

Oh Spud, I'm really sorry to hear that. Dad tried all kinds of things with mum, and her doctors have spent the last 10 years trying to get her to stop (she just got annoyed and started seeing a different one), but it's only happened now she's ready/wants to. How bad is it, how long has it been going on?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

He's always been gobby with a drink in him, but he only used to drink very rarely. Over the last few months or so, the weekend isnt the weekend without a few drinks, he cant hold it so it doesnt take much until he gets lairy

I've tried suggesting we dont drink, because we're trying to lose weight etc but it doesnt work. I've refused to drink, so he drinks alone

Firstly, how to tell someone they're not a nice person when they've partaken in booze :o

Second, DS is suffering some name calling at school. Do I call them on Monday or let him deal with it?

I have finally read your post properly :o and see I still got it wrong mixing alcohol with your DS - sorry :o
