I've been a Sky subscriber, since before it went digital, and have never had anything from them. I am now on SkyHD, and am paying nearly £50 a month, which includes Broadband. I've been informed by a friend, he rang them to see what deals they could offer. They took over the remainder of his contract for broadband, he has skyhd, and they included Multiroom. All for £30 odd per month. I am one of the unfortunate ones who, if I rang up and threatened to cancel, they would just say, 'ok', and cancel my subscription.
  • Ditto been with sky so long so no deals :(. Did get some money off movies for a while but then had to cancel. Annoying to have paid full whack for years and others get it cheaper.

This has probably been asked but I can't see the exact answer. We've been with Sky for years in my wife's name - no HD currently and we'd like it . Plan was her to cancel and for me (husband, same surname) to take out a new deal on line via quidco etc, . Can this be done?

    Thanks folks.

A colleagues husband did get a discount out of them by threatening to do this. They weren't going to offer him anything, so he said, ok, I'll cancel. Sign up in my wifes name, get a new box, at a cheaper price than he was paying. Recommend a friend, which would give him more off. All in all it would cost Sky more for him to do this, than to give him the discount he wanted, so they gave in. But as I said, I've never been lucky, and they may cancel.
  • I cancelled Sky last month and was cut off this week. Reason I left was because having sky sports was beginning to cause disagreements at home with the family. So I rang Sky and asked if I could take up their half price for one year multiroom offer which they themselves had offered me by letter in the summer. I had stupidly forgot to take up the offer in the summer and missed the offer end date. Anyway Sky refused to extend the offer and offered me nothing else so I said cancel. So Sky who would have actually received £5 more per month from me for multiroom will now receive nothing at all. I will have Freeview and Freesat instead and O2 will now get my Broadband custom.
  • It seems Sky may be aware of forums like this where we discuss these things and it seems that customers cancelling their subscriptions in their droves will not affect them as they appear to be backing down from keeping people signed up with them by offering money off.

It seems the credit crunch is even hitting Murdoch and co

I'd had loads of problems with Sky over the past year and have spent about €20 (roughly the cost of a month's subscription over here) on phone calls to them trying to resolve the issues. I rang looking for a a month's free rental to reimburse me for all the phone calls but they wouldn't so I cancelled.

I hadn't wanted to cancel and felt sure I'd miss it but now I'm so glad I did and I don't miss it at all. I have the freesat channels which are more than enough and I'm putting the money I'm saving towards my loan. Even when my loan is paid off, I doubt I'll go back to paying for TV.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

  • OK sky is the best!

But I don't like shelling out £60 every month.
what is the best alternative with hold live tv and record, twin channels etc?

I am thinking of humax foxsat HDR with large motorised dish.

    Any thoughts?
