That doesn't work for me. I have severe hayfever and start medicating in April but I still suffer prickly heat or could it be PMLE.
Incidentally do other suffers find it stops them from tanning?~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Hi
I sometimes get bad prickly heat and sun tan lotion tends to make it worse. I read somewhere that it is caused when the sweatglands on the skin get blocked up (doesn't that sound nice!) but I guess thats what happens when using suntan lotion. I've found that using a gentle exfoliator on the areas which are prone to prickly heat before prickly heat occurs tends to reduce or stop it.0 -
Stops me tanning, as I have to sit in the shade. So many people suffer from this. From darker skinned to fair skinned people. I do believe we should all be safe in the sun, but a nice tan (not burn) is part of going abroad on holiday. :cool:0

My wife used to suffer really badly with this complaint everytime we went abroad. Anyway one time we went to Florida and went to the usual welcome meeting. To cut a long story short we were given advise by an expert on skin conditions especially as Florida is very hot. She went on to explain the different skin conditions including prickly heat. The problem is caused by blocked pors on the skin and by sweating, the sweat cannot disperse so causes a reaction, her remedy was NOT to use a oil based sun tan lotion which is likely to block pors but a WATER based one, to this day my wife has not had prickly heat rash, been 10 years now!
She uses Boots Soltan, if you look at the label at the back it should state water based, there are not many sun creams that are water based but look for them are they are round.
I am no skin expert, but changing to a water based sun lotion can not hurt, give it a try it might work for you. I have only recommended Boots Soltan because I know it works for my wife I am sure there are other water based ones out there.
Happy sun bathing!

I suffered from this really badly one summer when I was doing a cleaning job and had to wear rubber gloves all day in the hot weather. I read in the sunday times that taking 1000mg (=1g) of Vitamin C each day would cure it and it certainly worked for me. Now I take it in the summer whenever it is very hot and I can feel my skin starting to go. I'd suggest buying tablets that also have zinc in as this is supposed to help you absorb the vitamin C better.0

My children's mild eczema was exacerbated by both Soltan and Ambre Solaire sun creams last summer. Can anyone recommend a good high factor sun cream/block for eczema sufferers?
Price is not too much of a problem if the product is good, although any hints on the cheapest stockists are most welcome, of course!0 -
Several years ago one of my children kept reacting to suncream so had to speak to GP about it. He prescribed a suncream for him (E45 own I think) and the brucey bonus was that it was then free!January '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far

I've got eczema and I'm pretty sure i'm allergic to Lanolin as part of it. Lanolin is often a major part of sunscrean and you're more likely to be allergic to it if you have eczema.
I personally go for Boot's own sunscreen as it's the only one on the market that's definately lanolin free.0 -
E45 contains lanolin - avoid!
Boots do their own make suncream for sensitive skin.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
