i get it all year round too - i get it so bad that i get raised white lumps in my skin, with the rash on top. feels like my skin is on fire

try your best to avoid situations you know will set it off.

when you do get an outbreak, hold your pulse points (eg wrists) under cold running water, as a way of helping to cool the whole body

aloe vera gel never worked for me, i just felt sticky, but you dont know until you try it.

apart from that, just try not to scratch. much, much easier to say than do i know but scratching only prolongs your suffering.

(and piz buin showergel and aftersun if possible is great too!!)

I get this as well and I found some fantastic stuff when I was in Thailand a while back. It's talcalm (sp?) powder with menthol in it. It worked really well for me when I was wandering round Bangkok in 35C heat. Exposure to the sun sets it off for me but once I have it, it will flare up just because I'm getting hot.

Sadly I haven't been able to find the equivalent powder here and I gave mine to a friend who suffers from prickly heat rash very badly in summer.

When I get it bad it feels as if someone if holding a candle flame to my skin - OUCH!

I've suffered from this for 20 years and have found that the higher the suncream factor the worse it is.

A fellow holidaymaker told me years ago about using suntan oil instead and it works for me. Ambre Solaire is great. If you keep reapplying you won't burn and the rash is kept at bay.

This year I also used no-ad factor 4 suncream for the first time. No sun rash with that either.

I'd recommend Eurax Lotion, an instant relief from the itching (heaven!)
I discovered it a few years ago when I got badly bitten by mosquitos, absolutely nothing I tried took the itching away and I was red raw and going mad! I tried Eurax as a last resort and was delighted with it, the soothing affect is instant. I've also used it for an itchy allergic reaction to washing powder. It says on the box, for relief caused by heat rash, so I assume it would work for prickly heat.

  • Try anti-histemenes (not sure if thats the right spelling) but take them 2 weeks before exposure to sun - this will build up an immunity.
