No me either - just trying to say that saying 'they are unnatural' and have 'don't have any of the benefits of sunshine' is wrong.

Go for pale and interesting! It's the only way.

this blue-eyed redhead agrees with this :)

If you are fair-skinned (and it usually goes with the territory) stay out of the sun as it will only do you damage in the long run. I've learned to live with being pale over the years and can't really understand this desire to be every shade from brown to deep orange in varying degrees these days

There was a time way back when being pale was highly fashionable, and a sign of status because it was only the rich who could afford to stay out of the sun, the 'workers' had to be out there in it regardless and were always tanned. Try and think of it in those terms - it helps :D

Depending on your budget, Rimmel do a bronzing cream for the body/face. It saves looking pale and interesting when the rest of the world are a nice shade of tan. However, even the lightest shade is a tad too dark for me so i mix it with a little moisturiser which dilutes the colour so to speak.

I heard on the grapevine that Johnson and Johnson do a new holiday body lotion which is a self tan lotion and is ideal for lighter skins. Its about £4 but i havent tracked it down yet to see if its any good.

Ah Bushranger, you sound gorgeous. One of my little girls has your colouring, and two of my lads. How utterly envious am I.

Block it all out, and let your radiance shine past all those leathery sun lovers.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

    oh yes :)

My sister-in-law has always been first out into the sun, seeking that tan, and now has skin truly reminiscent of an ancient elephant's hide, very, very noticeable on her face and neck. She's 5 years younger than I am but could easily pass as my mother!

I'm really glad I was happy to stay pale ;)

I have brown hair, but very pale skin and blue eyes (Irish ancestry)... and I've found that there's no point even trying to get a tan, because my skin doesn't do ANYTHING in the sun. If it's the height of summer and I've been sitting outside with bare shoulders all afternoon, I might go a bit pink, but normally all that happens is that the freckles on my arms go slightly darker. Usually I don't even bother with sunblock because nothing happens to the skin on my face when I go out in the sun. I don't know anybody else who has this peculiarity.

Having said that, I've never been a sunworshipper (LOL - almost typed "sinworshipper"!) at all, and I LOVE the pale and interesting look. Never bothered with fake tans or anything. And for all you redheads, I don't think tans look quite right with red hair. The red head/pale skin look is fabulous. Especially with darker red hair. Cover up as much as you need to, and be pale and proud!

(I've long since resigned myself to factor 35 and being pale and interesting. What does make me slightly envious is my brother and 5 cousins are all either true blonde or readheads...)

You only have to look at Nicole Kidman to see that. With her porcelain skin and red hair, I think she looks fabulous and always so classy compared to her orange 'St Tropez tan' peers! :)

I don't think I've ever seen a pic of her with even a hint of a tan, fake or otherwise...she certainly seems proud to be pale and beautiful.

When I was a kid and very self conscious about all the freckles I had (because other kids used to make fun of them) my mum used to say "one day they will all join up and you'll be brown all over" - I'm still waiting :rotfl:

    Hello!

OH and I are taking baby kit (aged 6 months) on holiday on 12th September.
We are going to Pontins and staying in a cheap chalet. It has no microwave so cold water steralising for a week

I am currently writing lists of everything I need to take but am sure I am going to forget something vital. Can people post their thoughts on what I need to take with us?
