Sky showing Bruce Almighty

Tonight I decided to watch Bruce Almighty. I was happily watching it until 'Bruce' starts watching the news reports about the Tsunami in Japan.
Now, I can't tell you how big a part this plays in the film - I imagine only a fairly small role and that he, as God goes off and sorts it out, because at this point I leapt up and left the room.
I am furious at the insensitivity of the Sky planners. Surely this should have been pulled from the scheduling at this point in time? Someone must have known or remembered what was in the film? I have already e-mailed them to let them know of my disgust. Am I the only one who feels like this? Are any others of you going to contact them?
And does anyone know who else I can complain to? I really feel very strongly about this.

I have to say whilst I understand what your saying Ticklemouse ,the 'news' event was on for seconds ,I would of considered a disaster film or a film where a disaster was the main story insensitive but this was such a minor section of the whole film :-/
a boo boo by sky I think but not blatant insensitivity
sorry0 -
Traf
Yes, I know where you are coming from in that this is only a small part of the film, but we are talking about a real disaster that has caused tens if not hundreds of thousands of deaths and for that reason, I think Sky should be more responsible. I imagine by the time the final figures are known, we in this country will possibly have lost 1000 + people.
After 9/11, some film scenes were reshot/redone to omit showing the twin towers for a few seconds. After all, this film is letting Bruce be God for a while.0 -
I wouldn't wish to get into a heated discussion about it I was just answering the question you asked,no I won't personally be complaining but can see how others may wish to ,I shall leave there, sorry I can't help with where/who else to complain to.0

Yeh, i saw this tonight and thought it was a bit dodgy but im sure it wasnt meant and although as trafalgar said it was a boo boo by sky i am certain they didnt mean to cause any harm
so no i will not be complaining0 -
The film did not ridicule the event, so for me there is no problem. It did seem poignant to me at the time, but where does this begin or end? 1 death is hard to deal with, never mind the magnitude of the Asian tragedy - but does that mean no films should be made that include a reference to death? If the film makes people think that tsunamis are not just a one-off event, then it may even have done some good. I appreciate your point, and think you have done the right thing in contacting Sky if you feel so strongly, but I dont think there is a problem with the airing of this film.My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0

Thanks for your replies. Maybe I am over sensitive to it, although at this time maybe that's acceptable.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be films etc involving death or tragedy, just maybe Sky could have thought about rescheduling it for 2 or 3 weeks? I'll wait to see what they say and if they have had any other complaints.
Happy New Year to you all anyway.0 -

I'll certainly let you know how I get on. There's been no reply to my email as yet, but then wasn't expecting one until Tuesday at earliest anyway. Have to phone them later re another matter, so may make verbal complaint then and see what they say.0
