yes, i see your point. there's probably something in a film or TV programme to upset everybody. in normal television people are raped, they have miscarriages, partners and/or children die, there are car accidents, shootings etc. and these things could really upset anyone who's been affected by something similar, especially if they are still grieving. we have war films when there are still people alive who were in those wars and relatives of those who died, films about the titanic (even if the survivors are dead by now it would still be harrowing to watch titanic if your parents had drowned on it).

i think we've just come to expect it after the immense amout of editing, warnings etc. that occurred after september the 11th. fair enough people were upset by it but at the time i thought it was ridiculous that asda pulled some james bond dvd's off sale just because they were about terrorism. interestingly with all the horrible things that are shown on TV and in films the one thing you always do get warning of is snakes/spiders.

however, the film WAS supposed to have a warning but it didn't work for everyone. sky fixed the problem and who knows, it may have prevented some people whose relatives are missing/dead from watching the film and spared them some upset maybe (although how the film could possibly show anything worse than what the media are bombarding us with nonstop at the moment is beyond me). complaining resulted in their fixing the problem and making sure the warning was shown, i'd say a positive outcome for everyone really :-)

Regarding the Vicar of Dibley show, I thought it showed the power of seeing a piece of film and how it changed the attitude of the men on her committee. Difficult to explain unless you watched the programme but they were discussing what they could do to make a difference and were quickly loosing interest as they didn't "feel" the problem but readily changed their minds after watching a film of two young children who had nothing.

Personally I thought it a timely reminder after the excesses of Christmas that not everyone is lucky enough to be able to sit and watch a TV in comfort. Certainly made my daughter think and coming at the very end of the programme didn't detract from the comedy of the rest of the programme.

I remember something vaguely on the news about the Vicar Of Dibley and there was suppose to have been a Feed Africa something day but it was cancelled as they didn't want to detract from the happenings in Asia. :)

I did watch the Vicar Of Dibley and found the programe its usual funny & witty, and the end I found very moving and correct for the time of year, makes us realise how lucky we are. :)

Excuse any spelling mistakes or coma's and fullstop's in the wrong place, I'm here to post a message not get grammar lesson's. But that's another topic. ???

arrg, why is it that the people responsible for writing letters etc to customers are incapable of checking what they write for correct spelling/grammar?

    "Sky Movies' decision", maybe?
pat does you post above refer to this post?

    playing devils's advocate here

should there be a warning or all programmes removed from schedules

there is something in everything that could offend or upset

a story line about miscarriage, cancer, car crash, drink driving etc etc etc
I can't tell you the amount of times a storyline has been relevant to my situations...................... there was one time, EVERY flipping programme had an actor doing the same thing to someone that had happened to me, it naffed me off so much I turned the tv off!

There was also a particular storyline in Eastenders that had me reliving a very bad experience, the actors had done a very good, so much so I was physically and mentally affected by it............but it's life and brought the subject to the fore, and may help people in future.

I agree Savvy. I have seen programmes on domestic violence and though it brings back terrible memories for me, I agree if it helps bring it out to help other people get this sort of thing sorted, I am for it. ;)
