I have an old htc phone on a pay as you go there in no time limit on my top up ie if I top up with £10 that will last several months.
If I where to by a new unlocked phone would I be able to buy a pay as you go sim card with no time limit.
The purpose of a pay as you go is that you are not tied into a monthly contract.

All PAYG SIM cards can work the way the want, be aware though, there is a time limit (even with your current one) which is normally 6 months (some MVNOs are shorter) of no use can see the sim deactivated.

As long as you make a call, send a text, use data or top up at least once in 6 months the credit will last forever (or until you use it up by calling/texting/using data).

Thanks for the clarifying that as I am hoping to buy a new phone shortly,:)
  • A little hint for everyone. If you sign up for O2 Star Trader and order a sim card for free and top up £10 they will pay you £5 back. Your first £10 top up then only costs you £5. If you ever want to change your sim you could order another one and do the same, obviously you'll lose your number but still.

This also works for any sim you order from them so you can make money by handing out free sims to other people.
  • Does anyone know of a good sim for a Doro really basic phone for my elderly parents. They are with Sainsbury at the moment who will cease to exist in January so need a new sim. It's the most basic phone ever calls and texts only so no 3 or 4 g required!!

  • Hi - looks like there's a pretty good deal EE are running (with MTV?) for a no contract £15 PAYG SIM with 7GB Data, 500 mins, Unlimited Texts and a free music subscription - I can't seem to post a link but if you search for "ee mtv trax sim" the free order form comes up.

Looks like the 7GB of data sticks around for 6 months.

We only use our smart phone when we go on holiday and then we mainly use the data allowance except for 2 or 3 phone calls. For emergency use only I suppose.

So as we are going on holiday shortly we want to buy a PAYG sim card.
I see there are monthly sims but I wonder if I buy online using my CC will the cost automatically roll over next month when I no longer want the sim??
Or should I pay cash at a High St store to buy the sim knowing that it can't roll over the payment in future.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
