  • People should be aware that in order to use Skype on the three network, you need a '3 mobile' mobile phone. Any old unlocked 3G handset will not suffice. This is because there are a number of security certificates that are required and are only present on '3 mobile' mobile phones.

There is an FAQ regarding this on the three website. I can't post a link, but go to the three website and search for "skype mobile other network"

The exception to this is if you are using a smartphone using Windows mobile 6.x OS, you can install the mobile version of Skype onto windows.

I'm using my original o2 sim on 18mth contract, (with unlimited web) but my web doesn't work! I think its to do with the data network!

Can anyone suggest a good alternative for a sim for the iphone!? Don't really want to stick with O2 and pay £30 a mth... PAYG is an option, but again thats min £10 a month!
I thought the idea of PAYG was... PAY AS YOU GO! Not miminum £10 a month?

    Please help! Thank you

reference the giff gaff deals in this weeks email/article.

I just got me a giff gaff sim (turned around in 1 day - hats off to them :) )

As far as I can see, once you've bought one of these bundles, it only lasts a month, so (e.g.) there's no point in buying the 300mins (at 8p/min) for £7.50 if you're only going to use 90 minutes during that month (you could just buy the 100mins bundle at £5).

What happens at the end of the month when the bundle expires? Do you just buy another bundle? What assurance do you have that the bundles will be reasonably priced (OK, not half price as they are now, but a reasonable price).

the article says that you can buy two bundles and one starts after the first one finishes. Is the start date of the second bundle the date you make the first call on it? Can I buy ten bundles now and use them sequentially over the next year ?

What about porting numbers and credit from an old provider?

I've had a scan through the porting guide, do I have to activate my new giff gaff sim before I can port my old number to it ?

Can I transfer my credit from my old PAYG SIM to the giff gaff one or do I just have to try and run out the credit on the old one? I guess I'll have to just keep swapping between my two SIMS (using giff gaff for outbound and my old one (with my old number) for inbound until I burn up my credit on the old one and I can transfer everything (credit and number) onto the old one...

    izzat right ....

    TIA

thanks for that. 'scuse my ignorance, just to check - I'm now thinking that the "100 minutes", "300 minutes" etc are free once you've bought the goodybag. Is that right? You're not paying for a 100 minutes package and then paying call charges on top of that?

Just an observation - if the above is right and you only use the phone (not the text or the internet) and buy the 100minute bundle at the standard price of £10, then the calls work out at 10p a minute, right - more expensive than the unbundled call charges? Or, put another way, you would have to make 50 texts a month before the "100 minute" goodybag costs-in over the unbundled charges [assuming you don't use the internet allowance].

Price promotion aside, I don't particularly see the point of queuing a second goodybag if its start date is the date that you bought it. If they were going to run concurrently then surely you would've just bought a bigger goodybag in the firstplace, no? If one runs-out wouldn't it make more sense to just buy a new one afterwards (except in the case of the temporary price-promotion). If the start date was the date the first one expired I would get the benefits of queueing them. Sorry, am I being thick here?
    Hope that's allowed here.
(Technically, referrals and other stuff that you get benefit from should only be posted on the referrers board).

Can someone change the main article where it says Tesco phones will work on giffgaff without unlocking? I've just seen a post on the giffgaff website from someone who bought a Tesco phone, based on the advice on here, and of course it doesn't work because it is locked to Tesco.

the MSE staff don't tend to monitor all the forum threads as there are just too many of them (threads, not staff!). I have PMed MSE Lawrence to draw his attention to it....
