I would do hot beef, gravy, onion/mushroom butties, baps or baguette with chips, wedges or roasties, or make a hotpot, or a nice thick beef ragu to go with some rice or veg with added herbs or spice depending what you fancy or maybe a pie with mushrooms onions and gravey? x

  • Ive got some left over topside. I slow cooked it a couple of days ago, it's a little bit on the dry side (still learning my slow cooker). I haven't got any potatoes and can't get to the shops right now (2 kids, no car).

Any ideas what I can do for dinner? Thanks

  • Have you got tinned tomatoes, some spices (maybe some of cumin, coriander, cinnamon, tumeric, paprika) and an oniont? Then you could make it into a middle-eastern stew type dish:
Fry off onion (and garlic if you've got it), add 1 tsp of each of your preferred spices (prob only 1/2 tsp of cinnamon), add tinned tomato and simmer for at least half an hour. Then add chopped meat (plus optionally any of: diced peppers, chopped dried apricots, dried fruit, chopped mushrooms) and cook til meat is thoroughly heated. Serve it with rice or cous cous or bulgar wheat (or even bread or pasta if you're really stuck!)

    Any use?

Cut the beef into matchsticks across the grain.

Chopped onion and sweat until soft, add tomatoes and paprika. Just before serving get hot and add beef to warm through. At the last minute add cream or plain yoghurt. Eat with rice.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Cut it into cubes, add into gravy, add any veggies you have and simmer until veg is cooked and beef is less dry. Make dumplings and add to the pan. If you have no suet, you can use butter.

I made a cobbler the other night, it was actually really good!

Put the beef and some veg into water with some oxo, stew for an hour or so, make some cobblers -

    for the cobbler:
    • 175g (6oz) self raising flour
    • 25g (1oz) butter
    • 100g (4oz) double Gloucester cheese, cut into very small cubes
    • 1tbsp snipped chives
    • 1 large egg
    • 1tbsp milk
Meanwhile prepare the cobble topping. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F / gas mark 6). Sift the flour into a mixing bowl and rub in the butter with your fingertips until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Stir in the grated Double Gloucester and the chives. Beat the egg and milk together and add to the dry ingredients. Mix to a soft dough then roll out onto a lightly floured surface and using a 5cm (2in) cutter, stamp out about 9 rounds.

Sorry without knowing what else you have in its hard to make a suggestion, do you have flour and fat to make pastry then you could make a pie just chop meat and heat in gravy, if you have rice or noodles and an onion or bits of veg you could make a stirfry. A jar or tin or curry sauce , just chop and put in.
