just out of curiosity what were you doing on your phone to get such a big bill?

So you thought you'd found a way to exploit O2, and ran up a huge gprs bill full well knowing that you should have been paying for it.

From your above post, they've refunded over £210 (even though they didn't really need to) and you still think you've done nothing wrong?

I too think something strange has happened with 02 GPRS lately

I have been on contract with them for almost 2 years and have never been charged for this, now suddenly within the last few months I have had approx £30 added to my bill per month for wap usuage

My usage has not increased,if anything it is less than in some previous months

On checking my online bill it appears that my free allowance is used up by just 2 short sessions of wap

I can only assume they have changed the monthly allowances without making me aware of this

I may stop using it altogether,as has been said above,it doesnt show in unbilled charges until quite a while after the event,so there is the risk of running up a huge bill

2/ I was not advised that O2 had started charging for o2 gprs as I had
previously used the service up to and including the 28 March for free.

3/ Your customer service representative informed me that a text was
sent to all customers informing them that gprs was now being charged for
during march, why did I not receive this text or better still a letter.

Incidentally I didn't receive any text message either

Neither did I - I spoke to someone in CS last week about getting charged £21 for GPRS and he said that the change came in on 1st April and all customers had received a text message. When I said I hadn't, he said it had been widely publicised in their o2 shops - I am not convinced as I was told it was free, wasn't sent a text and as I have logged in very frequently, receive an email from them when my bill is ready, get a hard copy bill - you would think that somewhere it would have notified me.

I disagree with comments about trying to cheat the system - when I checked this I was told it was free "for the foreseeable future" and when looking online, it had been for years (for some). Where people had checked, they had been told it was a sort of promotion (or a fault on the system that they could not record GPRS usage, which I find hard to believe for a company that makes its money out of recording minutes/texts/data etc).

Some of the bills do appear quite high at £300+ but it is very easy to run up a big bill with GPRS even just checking email - my 100K limit was used up after 2 emails  therefore a little useless as a limit. It is annoying as I have nearly 20 hours of inclusive minutes built up through rollover and a real shame it cannot be used for this purpose. Since they changed, I have stopped GPRS use unless absolutely essential.

I had a message on my bill about GPRS being chargeable, but I'm billed by CPW for my o2 contracts.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

I don't believe for one minute that 02 texted anyone to advise them of this. Claiming it was publicised in their 02 shops is no excuse, existing customers are not oblidged to have to check for changes to their tarriff by looking in shops!

I also agree noone is trying to cheat the system, they are just using as normal as they haven’t been informed of any change. I too, have been doing the same and have been puzzled why suddenly I was running up expenses for this on my bill.

As from now I wont be accessing 02 GPRS at all. I intend to contact them in the morning and enquire about this, also to ask as they have changed the terms and conditions of my contract, albeit without notice, would they be so kind as to cancel the contract altogether as it is not to my satisfaction

The problem as I see it is that I can find no printed/official reference to the fact it was free in the first place (apart from the 100K) - I only stumbled upon it when reading information on here and other discussion boards. I signed up in January (Mobileshop contract - 12 months free by cashback :j) this came as an added bonus. As a result, I don't think they have changed the t&c, they just started charging.

That said, I look forward to hearing what their response is (and to the official complaint posted above) as I am annoyed that they claim to have informed me they were changing this when they didn't. I would also be interested in hearing if anyone has successfully got them to remove the charge on appeal.

    Good luck
