I am so glad I found this thread a good few weeks ago...
I found an elf in a new store in the city I live in called Home Sense. His body is a (quite big) beanbag and he "sits" on the edge of the mantlepiece/drawers etc... with his legs hanging down. He sounds a bit cheap but he's not, he's GREAT! He's holding a present but I think I might take that off and use it for one of the days' events during December...
I also found a snowgirl for my daughter (I have twins, aged 2 and a quarter). She has a sequinned dress on and a fab knitted hat (again from the same shop). I think they were about £7 each and I'm really pleased with them.
I'm going to keep it quite simple this year as I don't think they'll grasp anything complex but it's just to "get it in their heads" this year. I know once Xmas is over they will probably forget but I think it will "come back" if the same elves appear again NEXT year...
Have got a few things in my secret cupboard but still need to make the train they are going to arrive on out of cardboard, paint, tinsel etc... (both children are train NUTS so I think it will be better-received, at least this year, if they arrive on a train).
Am going to Home Bargains and all the Pound Shops, Accessorize (they sell stickers for girls, learned today from the Special Occasions Board), The Range, Asda, Tesco, anywhere I can think of for simple presents and craft things to give them. We will be baking some cookies with cheap Xmas cutters, making paper chains (well, that will probably be me but they can "decorate" them with glitter etc...).
There will be little or no mischief this year as the children are just too young but that gives me a WHOLE YEAR to think of things for next Christmas when they will be 3 and a half ....
I hope everyone's elves have a marvellous time and I will keep popping in to get updates!

I managed to get two wooden advent trains last year that our elves 'arrived' on - will be using them again this year. they were great... the elves arrived on them with a letter from santa and some little gifts!!
Sounds a little mad but I'm going to be setting our elves up on Facebook this year.. anyone else doing that and fancy being elf friends??

Getting organised for elves visit- I know its early but baby due in under 2 weeks, and want as much sorted before then as possible. My ideas for this year- not in order, as not that organised yet (some I used last year too);
1)elves change girls duvet covers whilst asleep (xmas ones from next)
2)Elves to arrive in sleigh pulled by reindeer- with letter from santa
3)elves leave instructions to buy christmas tree, christmas music playing and box of decs in room on return
4)go to see local lights switch on
5)decorations to make
6)snowball fight (paper balls of husbands work)
7)elves decorate girls room with toilet roll whilst they sleep
8)christmas cards to write
9)elves watching dvd- popcorn and marshmallow fight
10)3 day break to centre parcs (I love it there at christmas- girls don't know we are going yet- have visit to santa booked)
11)christmas gifts to make
12)footprints in flour- mince pies to make
13)christmas eve- snowman soup, reindeer food etc
14) goodbye book, inc photos of antics from month
anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks x(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0 -
bertie will be coming back to us for the 3rd year this year. my older 2 are already asking about him.
sadly the website we had for him last year got closed due to the site no longer hosting free sites BUT OH is in the process of making him a new 1 - he bought the domain name so we now own site for 2yrs!!!
as soon as its up and running i will re-post on here and you can see the links for elf mischielf etc. (i have loads).due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

sammiller1981 wrote: »The nice thing is there are no rules :rotfl:so why not give it a try and see ahow it goes, you could always do the simple things this year and wait till next year to start the mischievous side of your elf. For example im sure she will enjoy the elf coming to visit, putting him to bed, leaving her chocolates and im sure there are lots of other ideas. Then next year your elf could have snowball fights and teddy picnics.
I love this idea and wish id known about it sooner, my kids are now 3 and 9 and i will definatly be doing it this year. Hubby is really excited about it. LOL:j
Sorry for taking ages to reply - I've had laptop problems.
I'm going to take your advice and start this year, but just with simple things. I've bought an elf from eBay (the Aurora one mentioned on this thread, although I hadn't seen it mentioned until after I'd bought it :rotfl:) and he's lovely, so now I need to make him a sleeping bag and think of a name for him.
I don't know whether to bother with a passport this year. On one hand, DD won't be bothered by it or know what it is, but on the other hand, it might be quite nice to look back on in the future with this year's date stamp.0 -
berties sleeping bag was made from an old stocking - cut it down added gold xmas ribbon to it (that matches what is on his hat) and it works a treat. his "snow" is a bag of bits - polystyrene balls, glitter, hole punched paper. all in a sealed bag, this means i dont have to clean up powder every day!
his passport was taken from the organised christmas site and i just altered the dates in photoshop and add a new "photo shop date stamp" every year.
i have a list a mile long of things he has done/is going to do/what other elves have done etc.
we dont have a facebook page BUT we do have a website. i may set him up a facebook page as can add to it through it the year. will let you know.due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

:j Hi everyone, i ordered our elf a few weeks back and also ordered my niece and nephew one after telling my sil the idea and she loved it.
Our elf will be arriving on december 1st and delivering our advent calendars. I am very excited, this is the first year i have done it. Oh thinks i'm nuts and very weird lol, but it's going to be alot of fun.
I have bought 48 of the elves cadburys chocolate bars it cost me just under £9 to buy them all and they will be left each night before Beau Jangles goes to sleep.0
