  • I have given up looking for a decent elf too. I can't knit or crochet being left handed and all my family are right handed and I 'just don't get it'.

I have now purchased two 'elf' outfits that will fit the kids 'Build a Bear' Bears from Ebay. I have typed a letter from Santa to say that they have become his secret elves to watch over the kids until Christmas. Also noted that the kids have to watch over the elves too because they can be a little naughty at times!! Ooohh I'm all excited.

Just to note my kids are 12 and 14 and I still think they will have a great time crafting, baking and taking photos of the 'Naughty' elves activities. Think it will be nice because they both still sleep with their bears (elves) too. Cute! This is the first time I have done the 'Elf' thing and I can't wait. The kids love humouring my childish ways but they make the best memories that last forever.

I also got this little fella. Even though hes a dog toy, hes really good quality and soft, the kids will never know.
i think he looks really cheeky. I spotted mine in the pet shop while getting sawdust. Id also been hunting for ages for an elf.

  • I found this on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260507791554&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Its a hanging elf ornament that comes in different designs / styles. It looks like these can be personalised with your elf's name. I'm thinking that my elf could leave this on Christmas Eve when he has to returns to the North Pole, just as a reminder of the chaos he caused :rotfl:
  • I just wanted to share this pic which my lovely OH did for me, I sent him the letter, journal and passport for him to edit for me with the kids names on etc etc.

Anyway I asked if he could add a stamp for our local airport onto the passport for me and he did it :j :j my eldest (aged 7 DS) will believe it really is even more real now!! :j

(The one I am on about is Newcastle airport and look at the date stamped on there aswell ;))

Great idea!!! I may copy this idea and also change the picture to a photo of our elves. :j Roll on 1st Dec, I can't wait for our elves to visit.
  • Oh dear Ive fallen behind with this a bit - think I need to get my bum in gear - thinking I might go buy a doll from Wilkinson (a cheap squishy one) and buy a little cheap Xmas outfit for it to wear or see if I can make one somehow.

Any idea for names people??? bearing in mind we have already had Merry - oh think Noel could be a good one though..................hhmmmm................
    Time to find me again

I need OH to do that one for me still, although I thought about printing a photo and sticking it on with some double sided tape as DS knows his passport has a proper photo on it ;)

Sammy Kaye - I have no ideas still, just plan to do things as and when I can although I really should write some ideas down!! Our elf is called Jolly Sugar Socks! I got it from one of the elf name generators!

    Hiya everyone.
Some fab ideas for our elf antics on here!! This will be my 1st time doing an elf tradition this year, and it sounds like such fun!!!!
Cant believe how hard it is to find an elf in the uk tho

Anyway, only came across this idea the other day, so I have alot to do lol!!
Mentioned the idea of to the kids (12, 5 and 3years) over dinner last night, that there is an opportunity for some "well behaved" families to adopt an elf on the 12 days before xmas! Explained that we had to send a nice letter to apply, and wait for a reply from mrs claus!!
My 5 year old thought it was great, and was telling me what she wanted to write in the letter, and kept reminding us all evening to be good, else mr elf wont come and stay!!!..................This is great lol!!!! :j
My 12 year old is going to help out with the whole thing and is excited too!!! Looking forward to thinking up things for him to do. She gonna help with the journal entries too!!

Just a few questions as its my first time doing this

How is everyones elf arriving at there house?
How should I go about starting it all off when he has arrived?
Are your kids allowed to play with your elf or is he to be left alone? Have you got an elf rule book!!

Think that wil do me for now, off to make up a letter of reply from mrs clause.
    Thanks in advance :D

:j I've spotted a possible solution for anyone still searching for a suitable elf - in Poundland! They had lots of characters, including Christmas teddies, reindeer (and lots of others which I can't remember I'm afraid) - all designed to stand up with weighted feet. Obviously only £1 each. I have bought one which is possibly supposed to be FC but looks quite elfin and too slim to be the big man himself in my opinion. I might fix a bell to his hat off one of our decorations - and that should do the trick!

The downside is that he probably won't be as flexible if you want little ones to cuddle him or plan to pose him for photos and mischief. But if you're stuck it's worth a go for £1. (They had very big bars of Cadbury Chocolate too!)
  • HI, Just looked at the original thread and found some printables and ideas here.

    Hope this helps.
