Thanks for this. Normally I get Focus Dailies All-Day Comfort, £21 a month from Specsavers.

I'm a bit worried about how I'll get on with Daysoft daily lenses seeing as my eyes tend to get dry with most brands..but at that price I'm willing to give them a try :)

You might be pleasantly surprised. I've found the daysoft ones better for this than my usual brand. Did you read the customer feedback? Quite a few refer to improvement in dryness.

Does anyone know if they make a check with your optition? I had a contact lens fitting last week and am doing a trial - they said if I want to purchase lenses from them, the fitting is free, however, if I want the prescription, so I can purchase on-line, it will cost me £20.00 - (or I can just abandon the whole thing and owe nothing), if I ordered from these, would they contact the optition for confirmation inc which case, they in turn would bill me for £20 -

Can they do that i thought they had to supply you with a copy of your prescription if you asked for one free of charge?

For glasses yes, but it's diffrent for lenses and the optician knows as your prescription differs too.

I would heartily recommend these, got them on Wednesday morning (super quick delivery) :)

No dryness problems whatsoever with the Daysoft lenses.

The Prescription is free but the consultation where they determine what the prescription will be is not. In the case in point the consulation was free if the lenses were ordered from the Optician concerned. However, if you decline to buy, then the consultation become chargeable and the prescription will not be issued until such time as the fee is paid.

It is the same as a normal eye test. You have the consultation, pay the fee and get the prescription. You do not have to buy your specs from whoever issues the prescription but they will not issue the prescription until you have paid for the consultation (eye test).

Unfortunately opticians are not a “free” service under the NHS unless you qualify for such. And even then i do not believe that contact lenses are covered by the NHS unless for specific defined medical reasons.

Do you honestly expect opticians to work for free whilst you buy lenses cheaply elsewhere?

If you think about it, it's not realistic.

    There are two choices basically.
    1) Pay for expensive lenses but get all the aftercare included.
    2) Get cheap lenses but pay for fitting/aftercare.

My experience is that the second is usually much cheaper even taking into account the private consultations.
The first might bring peace of mind to some especially if you have had a few problems and need a few consultations.

I know moneysaving is about "screwing back some money" but I don't think it's realistic to expect an entire profession to work for free with expensive equipment and trial lenses thrown in.

I ordered mine Monday evening and they arrived through my letterbox, nicely packaged, Wednesday morning. I do tend to get dry eyes but the daysoft lenses are so comfortable that I don't even know they're in.
