Stopping buying milk..am i wrong ??

Well tbh they're old enough to be doing what they're told, surely? I would sit them in a row and get really annoyed with them till the message got through. Tell them one glass each, plus one bowl of cereal per day, then stop...and to never finish off the last 1/4 of the milk bottle. Simple instructions like that. My kids are a lot younger and they can understand what the last 1/4 of the milk bottle means. Point out you go to work to pay for the bloomin' milk so you expect to have your fair share. Etc. I'd be foaming at the mouth by now tbh. You're the boss of both the budget and the kitchen, not them. They can't just ignore what you say...they're living in your house so they should stick to the house rules, no?
Then if they don't do it yes, stop buying milk for a week. And orange juice, squash, coke and anything to drink but water or tea with no milk. See how they like it. Yes, stop all the biscuits, crisp, cakes and all the other things that they like and are their little treats, same as your cup of tea in the morning. Fair's fair, no? Explain in simple, clear terms why you're doing this. The message will get through...and you'll easily save enough to cover the milk bills for a few days.
You could also try sending them out in turn to buy more milk, if there is a nearby shop. Or insisting they buy it on the way home from school and lugging it back. Be nasty....
And try some UHT milk in your tea. Better than nothing. Or the ice cube suggestion is a good one. But the real issue is that they're not listening to Sergeant Mummy, as my kids would say. Grrrrr!Val.0 -

I always have just under a pint in my freezer. I use a bit so the container isn't completely full as the milk expands quite a bit when it's frozen. It does look weird and watery when frozen but be assured it defrosts perfectly!0 -

Your so spot on..this is how i feel at the moment , i'm so angry ! i'm definetly not giving pocket money tonight..gonna tell them i'm buying milk with it :-)0 -
You need to reduce your milk bill. It looks like you’re paying 71p/pint! I buy litre cartons of skimmed by the case (12). At 49p it works out at 28p/pint and is sometimes on offer at 39p/carton, then I buy loads of cases.
Also Sainsburys sells 1% milk for £1 per 4 pints. You could buy this and freeze some as flissh suggests.0 -

You're going to mete out a punishment with no warningThey'll see that as so unfair (and I'd agree with them
). At least tell them today that there'll be no pocket money if they drink all your milk this week, and give them a chance to put things right, then stop it next week, if you need to.

This is your answer not reducing the amount you buy.
Reduce what you pay for your milk and then you can afford to buy enough to go round.
Incidentally,I don't know how you manage on 3-4 pints a day.
I only had 3 children and they went through 12 pints everyday up until they left home.
They used to drink loads of the stuff.0 -

I think if I put a bottle in the fridge that said 'mum's milk' on it, it'd put mine off it for life. :rotfl:
You could get 18 pints of Tesco milk for £6.75 (£2.25 for a 6 pints jug). I buy 2 of these at a time.0 -

The OP said she used 2-3 pints a day. That's really not a lot between 4 older children. A glass of milk can easily be half a pint. They can't be drinking that much.0
