Good morning everyone,
Today is the 2nd time this week ive woke up to no milk ( this happens every week ) i only work part time but all i ask is for a nice cuppa before i set off to work in the morning. Its just not on, we go through approx 2-3 pints a day so costing me £10 -15 a week depending on if ive managed to get to iceland that week, that's £40-50 a month !.My kids just come in a drink glass loads ( there's plenty of orange juice in) and they have the odd bowl of cereal in the morning .No matter how often i say " don't drink all the milk " they still do and like this morning no body owns up !. Me and my eldest daughter are quite happy to have coffee mate in our tea. My kids ages are 13, 15, 17, 22 .They eat alot of cheese surely they would get all there calcium from this ? and there's toast for breakfast ( never did me any harm). They need to be taught a lesson if nothing else.
Am i being to harsh ??

Why not get them all a bottle each, label it with their name, and see who can make theirs last the longest?0

You have 4 children, so your bills are bound to be higher than smaller families
I always encouraged mine to drink milk, as it's full of nutrients and helps to protect them against osteoporosis in later life. I prefer it to juice, which isn't so great for their teeth.
How about encouraging them to drink water if you're worried about the cost

I keep a carton of skimmed long life hidden away for just these moments. Has to be skimmed though as any other long life tastes horrible to me.
Also something I have thought of and never tried is freezing milk in an icecube tray, so that it would be quick and easy to defrost one or two cubes in an emergency. These could be hidden away in the freezer.0 -
Didn't realise you could freeze milk !0

I think you need to introduce some sort of rationing system though. During the war the milk ration was 3 pints a week for adults and I think it was 3 and a half pints for 5-18 year olds. Under 5s got a pint a day. Can you ration them all to half a pint a day?
Children grew taller and stronger during the war so that amount of milk must have been adequate. With the cheese they're scoffing I'm sure it'll be enough.
Freezing a small quantity of milk for your cuppa is a good idea too.
Edit: after reading your post more attentively I see you already get through 2-3 pints a day. Allowing them all half pint a day doesn't really reduce your total consumption. It doesn't seem a huge amount though given that they are growing lads and lasses.0 -
for years, when the kids were at home, I used to keep a bottle of milk in the freezer for just such occaisions,(cant be drunk straight off, but I had the patience to wait for the first de-frosted dribble) Like the idea of the ice cube tray
wish I'd thought of that in 198********0 -

You surely can, and if defrost it in the fridge, it should defrost at the rate of a couple of cups of coffee a day for a few days :rotfl:0
