Slightly odd-shaped day today, which is why I haven't posted. Routine visit to doc (no, I don't have rheumatoid arthritis, and for the other problem try black cohosh from any good health food store); meeting at colleague's house - he made his usual jokes about inappropriate things, and I managed to stop myself walking out but objected *at the time* - hurray, thats quite a breakthrough. Got home - extra session needed to be done, so I had two sessions today, and in between times I've been on all sorts of sites all over the web - travel. Travel up to London, travel to Liverpool - taka helped! Its absolutely amazing the number of things I *didn't* know about this! I'm going to have to make a list, embarrassingly.

Glad you managed to say something to your colleague... Well done! :T:T

Good luck with your travel stuff! :rotfl:

    :hello:

Yep, I was pleased with the personal thing.

The travel!!! That little tool on the Virgin Trains website to find the cheapest fare - I'm going to go to it daily to try to get an £11 fare on the 23rd - they're showing at that a fortnight before Christmas, but the cheap fares haven't been released yet for the week before. Its complex, but it *could* save me £50, so its worth pushing a bit.

Regular trip to London - well, I'd have to get a bus into my local town to get a really cheap fare, and that would cost more, but only a bit. And I could then use an Oyster card, which is *really* cheap - £2.20 off peak, as opposed to £4 single.

    Comparisons:
Travelcard to London: £13.75 or £16.05, depending on which train company.
    Bus home: £1.80.
    Total: £15.55 or £17.85

    Southern Railway 40% off:
    Return to London £8
    Bus Daily ticket £3.20
    2 oyster card fares £4.40
    Total: £15.60

Hmm, the saving isn't as big as when I thought I could go straight from my usual station - you have to take a voucher in, so that wouldn't work. Thinks ..... I could get a coach up to London .... those fares are the same kind of thing, and I wouldn't have to pay the extra bus ticket. That would mean:
    coach up £4
    Train down £4
    bus ticket £1.80
    2 oyster card fares £4.40
    Total £14.20!

A-ha! Now thats worth doing. Difference of £3.65 - thats the monthly mortgage overpayment!

Sorry to be so boring and write it all out like this, but if I do it on a piece of paper, I'll lose it, I know I will (I know, I've lost it anyway :rotfl:)

  • It's not boring at all Karma its a good exercise to make sure any saving is worth the extra inconvenience.

I know what you mean about finding parts of MSE that you have never seen before I am currently investigating the christmas threads and there are some great ideas there.

    Well done on speaking up.

:kisses3::kisses3::kisses3: ahhhh .... where else can I do this? You lovely people!

Better do a list for today, time is getting on a bit:
    - Virgin scratchcard, they were down earlier.
    - deposit for free bingo
    - do free bingo
    - check for mystery shops
    - 4 emails, 3 work and one a hardly-seen friend.
    - do the washing up!
    - and a bit of vacuuming on the stairs - this is also "work" work, as I need to do it before a client arrives.
    - sort out business papers.
    - carry on with sorting my accounts paperwork.
    - something physical - my decluttering list this month is the garden, so I'll revert to that and saw some branches so I can stick them in the waste.
    - bit of shredding of recent waste, so I can stick *everything* in the recycling collection thats due tomorrow.
    - water the pots out the back.

Long list, but some of them will literally take 5 mins.

And - new bits of MSE not seen before

Be careful out there - I adventured into the 'electricity' area last night on the boards - been offered something new and not sure I want to take it - its a big old world out there on the rest of the website.

Well done on the savings from travelling - how often do you go to London - it will all mount up.
