Thanks all! Quite a few sets of crutches stacked up here, I'll pass them out along with the jaffa cakes.... maybe I won't finish this one altogether, then, but use it for some of the musings after all.

Done, then! And well done :)

What I really, really need now is for the girl in the French office of my apartment's management company to be able to understand what I need from her; then all in my life is peachy, and I go forward as is.

One of the things I've been doing, in looking at my overall situation, is to decide what jobs I want to do each month - and once the emergency stuff ( i.e. this year's accounts) is *finally* out of the way, I'll allocate some time each month to them. My list of monthly things to be accomplished is a good'un, actually - balance is all, and this is it, a couple of hours each of:
    - accounts
    - CPD
    - batch cooking
    - house maintenance
    - garden maintenance
    - pampering
    - decluttering
    - a hobby (knitting, genealogy, a museum visit, whatever).

And, btw, this is the solo monthly stuff - there are other lists about other things***! :) Unless I have a list like that, I'll get stuck, and spend hours clicking on surveys and earning 30p for an hour's fiddling about on the computer. Life is finite - I'm not going to do that any more.

***EDIT - and all 3 lists are written into the front of my bible, my daily diary (the work diary - I'm serious about this sh*t :):) )

That's exactly right. Life is too short to be stuck doing what you hate. As always - it's about balance.

That definitely looks like a good balance..you are right life is too short to worry about little stuff(surveys) and can be better spent on something else.
I think a list always helps.
Do you have any french speaking friends that can help witth the interpretation or can you e-mail in english but use a french translator on the computer before sending it?
  • Don't know if this is going to make any sense, but something I have tried to do over the last few years is use my instinct a lot more for decision making of all sorts - we relied on it when we were flat-hunting, this place was bought purely on the strength of the fact that we walked in and it felt like home. Since then, so far as possible, I have tried to follow that same course and not over analyse situations. Not sure if that's of any help, mind you! Good luck with your musings!

Yep. That it also happens to be one of the last things that Daniel Jackson says, in the very last Stargate SG1 episode,is neither here nor there :D It *is* true, and I'm just beginning to connect with it.
