  • Thriftlady I have an addiction to cookery books too and have learned now to either get them from the library first or look at them in Waterstones before giving Amazon my money:p. I saw the other day you had Diana Henrys Roast Figs Sugar Snow book...I have her others and loved them and was really looking forward to getting that one but whilst it is a lovely book I dont think I will use it....lesson learned;). There are a few new ones coming out in the run up to xmas I have my eye on;)
You are much more self-controlled than me;) I love Diana Henry's writing particularly the long introductions to the different ingredients she uses in her books-they give me lots of ideas. I've only made one recipe from the 3 books I have of hers though, and that was the Swedish meatballs this week. They were good.

You are right about the new cookbooks on the horizon -Hugh F-W's River Cottage Every Day is the one I'm eagerly awaiting, and then there's Nigel Slater's new one. The Pioneer Woman has a book coming out in November too:j

Thanks for the tip about cooking chorizo on the EG thread btw;)

You aren't Spanish by any chance?

Helyg my eldest (now 14) had a rocky first few years at school. He was variously diagnosed by teachers as having behavioural/communication difficulties. Asperger's and ADHD were mentioned. I seriously considered home education for a very long time (boy am I glad OH persuaded me against that lol! judging by how much I love September I'd have hated home ed). Anyway, ds1 simply grew out of whatever it was. From y4 onwards when he had a teacher who really brought out the best in him he has been a focussed, hardworking pupil who enjoys learning. So please don't despair.

Thriftlady Lol am not self controlled at all I just try to be;) I was in town last week and the new Jamie book found its way into my bag:o
My favourite Diana Henry book is Cook Simple..if you have it the Chicken and chorizo paella is to die for and very easy. I am making the leg of lamb in cider and creme fraiche on Sunday:j. I will have a look at the meatball recipe in the other book.
I am waiting for Hugh`s new book too and Nigel has 2 out....one for veg one for fruit. I think Tamasin Day Lewis has one coming out too but not sure what it is or if I "need" it lol.
No I am not Spanish but lived there for a year on my year out from Uni. No one spoke English and it was hard going but it did wonders for my Spanish. I just love Spanish food and culture.....have also had a couple of Spanish boyfriends in my time so I know my way around a chorizo:p;):p:rotfl:there are still foods there that I miss greatly and cant get hold of......Turron ice cream and avellana ice cream:cool:
If you like Spanish/South american cooking and food I recommend Elizabeth Luard.
Jayward hope you are ok....hugs and keep your chin up girl xx

I like her European Peasant Cookery;) Nigel's fruit one's not out till May I think. I'm wondering about the Tamasin Day Lewis one, but she really annoyed me on the video Amazon have of her and I know from bitter experience she tends to repeat recipes.
I'm off to check out the chicken and chorizo recipe:T Muchas gracias!

    Hi all :hello:

I am almost ashamed to say, that I've only got up in the ninety minutes - woken from my codeine fuelled sleep by the people upstairs stomping around and playing very loud hip hop - very loud considering I'm pretty hard of hearing at the moment - I dunno why throat things affect it, someone explained once..

NoahsPennilessMummy, thanks for the hint - I was like that as a kid (well, I just spoke French with hints of Spanish and Welsh and refused to speak English) but I grew out of it. I might speak to local schools, see what they think and also put an advert on the intranet at my old work where everyone loves going to Spain but hates having to try and explain that they are Welsh.

Helyg, I don't know if it's any help but I was a little so-and-so at school (see above), I never fought with my twin or friends at home but at school, I was bored to tears so created my own fun. It works both ways I guess, if the work is too hard without decent explanation - bad behaviour. The work is too easy and you're sidelined - bad behaviour.
My parents were actually told I would never get anywhere as I was idiotic, lazy and obnoxious with no useful talents (I spoke five languages and was bloody good at maths) just because the teachers couldn't be bothered to teach me in a manner that worked. I sent my old school a picture of me at graduation with a couple of photos of me teaching in France and me in front of the language school in Spain and asked them if Barcelona counted as nowhere. I do hold grudges though and I hated that school.

Anyhoos back from my bitterness, today I am cooking some more for my in laws. I am making them bacon and leek quiche and cheese and onion pasties then I will get down to making my curtains - honest! I will! And not just go through the forums.. *whistle*

I'm still not sure what to do with my sausages in the freezer so I have earmarked some for bacon wrapped sausages with mash on Sunday.

Also, anyone got any ideas of how to get candlewax off a wall or is the paint now good and stained?

Hugs and the like to all!

    Maite.

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes :A. I've worked out who it is now (she's not very bright bless her ;)) so I shall continue to ignore. :shhh:

Goodness HJ - is it someone we'd know - obviously not me - I'm very bright :D - seriously though it must be bl**dy awful.

Congratulations PatentNana - look forward to the pictures.

dd(12) dd the meal plan last night for me and am having it delivered tonight as the delivery was only £3 even though we have a couple of days left on the old plan - it will all keep though,

mr Caringsharing called last night - dd(12) wants a microscope for next week's birthday - he wants her to want a Wii and for me to contribute. Well she's persuaded him into the microscope and he's found one for £200 - and he wants me to contribute:eek::eek::eek: I have reminded him that she is going to be 13 and wanting to look at skin cells, dead leaves and the like and is not currently a forensic investigator and/or very near to discovering the cure for the common cold. I have told him that i'm going to get her 50 quids worth of her massive WHSmith book wishlist - she gets a bit panicky if she runs out of reading material.

Tea tonight will be tuna pasta - have good days all
