Is there a reason that there is not a Spam button in the Codes thread....if people post chat/nonsense/whatever over there instead of here, if we all clicked would it not then disappear??
It's not spam and you would be breaking the forum's rules if you did that.

Why not have a 'This Is NOT a code' button then?!

Welcome to ladies, gentlemen, cats, dogs, those illiterate people in the corner >>>>>>

You have all been invited to quoia's Wonder World of Thread POSTing

By the end of the short lesson you will all be able to POST on a thread CODES or WORDS that a SEARCH WILL ACTUALLY FIND AND NOT MISS :)

For the point of this exercise the [ and ] SQUARE BRACKETS that allow Bold, Underline, Italics, Size changes, Colour changes etc. etc will be replaced by the < and > LESS THAN and GREATER THAN characters so you can actually see what I mean.

    1. IF you want to HIGHLIGHT a CODE or WORD or PORTION OF TEXT then you use the [ and ] (with one of a selection of characters enclosed by them to determine the effect) before and after the section required to TURN ON and then TURN OFF the desired effect.

    Remember < = [ and > = ]

eg <b>BOLD</b> or <u>UNDERLINE</u> or <size=4>TEXT NOW SIZE 4</size> or <color=red>TEXT NOW IN RED</color> etc. etc.

These effect codes are automatically included in the general text of any post when using the ADVANCED EDITOR where these options are selected by a mouse point and click method.

    2. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS !!!

    3. THE PROBLEM ??? SEARCHING !!!

    4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - ENSURE THERE IS A SPACE BEFORE AND AFTER ANY CODE or WORD THAT NEEDS TO BE SEARCHABLE

    5. If you want the code 123456789 to be in :

BOLD - it would be encoded as <b>123456789</b>
UNDERLINED - it would be encoded as <U>123456789</U>
A LARGER FONT - it would be encoded as <size=4>123456789</s>
COLOURED RED - it would be encoded as <color=red>123456789</color>

HOWEVER, if someone SEARCHED for 123456789 then IT WOULD NOT BE FOUND !!!

    6. REMEMBER TO SPACE IT !!!

    7. If you want the code 123456789 to be SEARCHABLE and in :

BOLD - it would NEED TO be encoded as <b> 123456789 </b>
UNDERLINED - it would NEED TO be encoded as <U> 123456789 </U>
A LARGER FONT - it would NEED TO be encoded as <size=4> 123456789 </s>
COLOURED RED - it would NEED TO be encoded as <color=red> 123456789 </color>

    8. Another easily demonstrated NEED FOR THIS SPACE is URLs

    eg. https://www.google.co.uk

Now in SIZE 4 - WITHOUT A SPACE - so format is <size=4>www.google.co.uk</size>
    www.google.co.uk

    Now in SIZE 4 - WITH A SPACE - so format is <size=4> https://www.google.co.uk </size>
    https://www.google.co.uk

Notice how the WITH SPACE URL is CLICKABLE whereas the 1st one is "JUST TEXT"

SO REMEMBER TO SPACE IT !

Sorry to be dim but shouldn't the sizes be the same? i.e. Now in SIZE 3 . . so format is <size=3> rather than size 4?

Yes sorry about that - I was chopping and changing between sizes 3 and 4 because I seemed to get different results on the display of the post depending whether I was browsing with IE9 or Google Chrome and was trying to work out why.

    Both now the same :)
