I can think of several other forums and the like where non MSE users are also trying to obtain tickets and are checking all the SAME CODES etc. as often as possible.
The chance of picking up the "actual same" pair of "returned tickets" from a post on ANY thread on MSE saying "I've returned a pair of tickets for X at Y on Z" is very very remote to say the least

Hit. Nail. Head. :)

But..... There have been several people who've returned tix on MSE and someone on MSE has managed to grab a pair of tickets from the same code after some where returned.

Yes I agree they are few and far between, but even the odd 'ive returned' post in the Codes Only thread can be very annoying.

So, to post or not to post..... I say post, if someone has 0.001% of getting that returned ticket but does, then someone has been made happy... and tickets havent gone to possible waste

But where to post..... :think::think:

I'd like to welcome alwaysonthego to the cinema threads as our new Board Guide.
Let's hope we don't have another silly day like yesterday for a very long time. But if we do we know who to ask for help.
I have asked the forum team to look at this thread as it is off-topic and argumentative.

Please look at the sticky threads by MSE Andrea and the Forum Manager as a reminder about your conduct on here.

GOING OFF-TOPIC

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: While it’s easy to wander off-topic that often prevents newbies finding the information they want quickly and easily (please see this rule). Please keep this thread on topic. If you’d like to discuss non-MoneySaving related topics please continue your discussion in The MoneySavers Arms or Discussion Time. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I thought it was probably you to be honest but I can't trust my memory these days.

Following your recommendation I watched this film, although I did manage to miss the beginning!

It is a great film and I hope to watch it again soon, this time from the start.:)

I went to see the remastered version of Metropolis today and really wish I hadn't bothered. Why subtitle only part of a film? :wall:

Much preferred the comedy club I went to in the evening even though I missed seeing The Rolling Stones -The 1972 Exile on Main Street US Tour. I hope to catch up with that next week.:)

That was probably me :)

I saw it as a Freebie when it 1st came out and referred to it in a post when it was being shown on BBC a few weeks ago.

I also put it up as a suggestion for willeynotwiley and their film club - they posted that The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas had been a success and thought this would follow in its footsteps.

Starts in just a couple of minutes :)

BBC4 - 11pm

I have to say that I'm with quoia on this. There is no reason to tell us that you have returned tickets but if people do want to share, then discussion is the place. Certainly not the codes only thread.

The Codes Only thread is for codes complete with link and list of cinemas, to add a link if original post is made by a newcomer who can't post links and after that the only other things should be to advise of any important changes such as change of date, change of venue or cancellation of screening. Certainly not for a suggestion made today to have a separate thread for Sky users only.:(

I have sent a pm to the person who has made that particular suggestion to suggest they chat here. As for that suggestion, if we go down that road, we'll end up for separate threads for Times subscribers, Heat magazine buyers, etc etc. Codes is codes is codes as far as I'm concerned.:) It might be a disappointment when you find you can't apply for ticket but the same applies when your cinema isn't listed for a particular preview. It happens, we have to live with these disappointments I'm afraid.:)

To be honest I think the bah humbug option of Don't post them at all is the best suggestion.

Firstly what's the difference between a post saying "I've returned a pair of tickets for X at Y on Z" (mostly without the code they were obtained with - which makes it difficult to "find them" if there are several codes, which is the usual case) OR a post saying "Tickets still available for X at Y on Z" or "Just got tickets for X at Y on Z" a few hours or days after a code had been originally "made public" and the initial quantity had all gone ?

As I've said many times before - A CODE HAS NO TICKETS LEFT ONLY WHEN THE SCREENING HAS TAKEN PLACE.

Often another batch of tickets can be released on a previously posted code - sometimes just minutes, often hours or days after the initial release (OR the last time you tried the code) - AND WITHOUT NOTIFICATION !
Just keep trying as often as you can - Cancellations & returns don't just happen from those obtained by MSE members.

Which nicely brings up ...
Secondly - All the codes for all the free screenings ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO MSE.
I can think of several other forums and the like where non MSE users are also trying to obtain tickets and are checking all the SAME CODES etc. as often as possible.
The chance of picking up the "actual same" pair of "returned tickets" from a post on ANY thread on MSE saying "I've returned a pair of tickets for X at Y on Z" is very very remote to say the least.
Indeed they could have gone even before the "I've returned" post has been made.
If they haven't unless you have "instant notification" and can respond immediately it is all but pointless - just try existing codes as often as possible.
If you HAVE GOT INSTANT NOTIFICATION - think about it ...
Returned tickets for films YOU'VE ALREADY GOT TICKETS FOR !
Returned tickets for codes that DO NOT INCLUDE ANY SUITABLE CINEMAS !
Returned tickets for SCREENINGS ON UNSUITABLE DATES !
That's a lot of checking notifications and/or returned tickets thread posts to STILL have to go to SeeFF or ShowFF or TellTen etc to TRY to obtain "this returned pair" from a very "SELECT FEW" codes (ALL OF WHICH YOU ALREADY KNOW) that are applicable to an individual (right film in the right cinema on the right dates) to find out you've been beaten to it. (probably by someone from FMUK or Bargainspy or HUKD who were unaware of a "MSE return")

So all in all WHAT'S THE POINT ?

i did the same :) and totally agree, the board is for all codes and links etc, part of the thrill is wondering if the tickets will be for a company you can get, or even if your cinemas is going to be listed :)

Is there a reason that there is not a Spam button in the Codes thread....if people post chat/nonsense/whatever over there instead of here, if we all clicked would it not then disappear??
:hello:
