  • Saw "Bright Star" today which tells the story of John Keats and Fanny Brawne. It was beautfully filmed and the acting was so real. Not my hubby's cup of tea admittedly but my mum and I loved it. Thank you to whoever posted the original code ages ago - not just recently.

Thanks for the feedback. Didn't get a free screening, unfortunately, but was considering going to see this (and, yes..don't know how to say this - paying!!!).

    Hi,

I've won a family pass (up to two adults and two children) to the premiere of A Christmas Carol showing at Odeon Liverpool ONE at 7pm on Tuesday 3rd November. However, my friend has just called to say that her daughter is ill and they can't make the screening with me.

So if anyone would like to bring one or two children and meet up with me around 6.30pm at the Odeon tomorrow. Please send me a pm so we can make arrangements.
  • After seeing Michael Caine's last offering ('Is Anybody There?'), which was a whimsical pensioner fantasy, I approached Harry Brown with extreme trepidation...but it was an outstanding film.

Imagine if Carter from Get Carter had lived, to end up on a sink housing estate in South London. And set off on a revenge outing again, this time to avenge the murder of his last friend and companion...that, basically, is the movie.

Caine, in his late seventies, was excellent - hard-eyed, brutal and on a gun-toting mission.

It won't be for everyone, this film - it's bleak and disturbing, and has VERY graphic scenes of sex and violence. Personally, I think it will be a classic! So glad I made the effort to go, on a cold and rainy night.

Michael Caine's more mature performances are some of his finest in my opinion.Although polar opposite to Is Anybody There, it shows how versatile Caine can be. Giving believable performances in both.

Sadly the violence, whilst graphic, is true to life with the druggies and gun toting bad guys showing how cowardly they really are by using mob violence to attack innocent people, sometimes just for the fun of it.

    A fine, fine film.

Sadly, it appears that I'm one of the people who shouldn't have gone. I've never seen such a bleak, depressing film. I like to be challenged by a film sometimes but this was just too much for me...
