  • Watched Cold Souls tonight. I really liked it, and thought it was quite funny. However, it was a character-based film (which is obviously slower than an action-based movie), and there were so many walk outs (what were they expecting - stunts, explosions?). Other people who actually took the time to watch the trailer and read the synopsis could have used these tickets. I don't think it is a good idea for these people just to bag free tickets just for the sake of it. There seemed to be a sudden explosion of youngsters in attendance, who just didn't seem to have a clue about cinema, other than the fact that it was free. Appalling.

If I can play Devil's Advocate, I have never walked out of a preview but there have been a couple I wish I had have walked and a couple that I've been disappointed in. Personally I read the synopsis and when I'm at the cinema I love the trailers but to be fair the film companies pay for promotion that will paint their films in the best possible light. I know some people who won't watch trailers because they feel that all the best parts of the film will be in the trailer. And I have to agree that this can and has happened sometimes.

Before going to see What Just Happened I considered that to be a film that I would pay to see. How glad am I that I only lost time rather than cold hard cash. IMO that film was dreadful and the title summed up exactly what I felt when it ended. I felt as though I'd suffered a sense of humour bypass when I saw Funny People or Unfunny People as I call it. On paper I it seemed to be exactly my kind of movie but it wasn't to be. And it went on for far too long, I really wanted a refund of my time after seeing that particular film.

Recently Taking Woodstock and Bright Star both disappointed me. The former because I expected more relevant music, the latter I found to be dull. I had read the synopsis and seen the trailers for both but you can't take into account personal taste and I try to give all genre of film a go including foreign language films, most of which I enjoy. Although one or two have disappointed and I've learnt that French language films tend to be quite slow so I take that into account and have enjoyed most of which I've seen.

My point being that you can 'think' you will enjoy a film but some can still disappoint even after doing your 'homework' so to speak. It would take a lot to make me walk out though. I would probably sink down in my seat and nod off ;)

Thanks for your reply, which I really appreciate.

However, after 5 or 10 minutes, they weren't giving the film a chance.

Also, once one walked out, several others followed suit like lemmings and the exodus began.

More of a case - 'oh, they don't like it, so I must not like it either.' Not exactly thinking for themselves or giving the film a chance. Some films have a longer set up than others. I, personally, like to turn up and tune into a film, not turn up and switch off like some people do. It really is a two way process.

  • I went to see Cold Souls yesterday in Cardiff and i did give it a chance for 40 minutes it was awful the fact that Paul Giamatti was in it did ring a few bells as i have seen him in a few films and he is one of the most depressing actors i have stumbled upon. The plot was dragging and i thought well i don't really want to waste another hour or so on this dross so i left, when you are older your time is important and i don't see the point of putting yourself through torture just for the sake of it. The only other film that i have walked out of was down with love with Ewan Mcgregor and Renee Zelwegger that was just as bad, hey if you ain't enjoying it you don't have to sit there for the sake of it being a freebie.

I agree that 5 or 10 minutes isn't long enough to see if a film is good or not (although in my defence I knew instantly that UnFunny People wasn't my cup of tea). However as lovinglifeinwales has proved some films just don't aren't worth wasting time on even when free. It all comes down to personal taste I suppose.

Just got tickets to see Law Abiding Citizen, really excited about this after seeing the trailer before :) got the tickets from the momentum site but i inputted the wrong name (middle name) and dont have any proof thats my name, so how can i change the name on the ticket please? :)

Save the web page on your computer.
Go to the file and right click and go to Properties. Change the "Opens With" to Notepad.
Then open the file and do a search for your name and change it to what you want. Save it. Then close it.
Go to the file icon again and change the "Opens With" back to your web browser. Then open the file and you should be able to print off the ticket with the changed wording.

  • I saw cold souls on Thursday and felt very much like walking out. The actors were good but like the title of this film there was something very cold about it and the audience just didn't seem to warm to. I have never seen a film where the audience is so pleased for the end. It rambled on which is such a shame because it had so much promise and what a great idea for a movie. Character movies can be good but you have to give some thought to the audience.

I loved it too, even though I found it bleak. Which bits did you find unrealistic?

The bit in the grow house - you wouldn't contaminate your set up by living inside it like that. - weed people do weed junkies do junk - scary but fake, that would ahve been turned over by the police long before the plants got that size.
