are you serious about the food costing £100pp a day at the andaman in langkawi.
if thats the case i don't think i'l be able to afford it

When I was in Langkawi I got talking to a couple who were stopping at the Andaman. They said it was superb but had to head out as the food was so expensive and there were no other restaurants nearby. Around the Cenang Beach area there are loads of places to eat for only a few pounds.

I know it's your Honeymoon and you want something special, but there are several other resort type hotels in Langkawi which are much cheaper and closer to things to do - and you could easily shave £500 off your budget.

Have a look at the reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g298283-Langkawi_Kedah-Hotels.html

The Casa del Mar looked amazing (I was stopping in a cheaper place nearby)

In that case do change your hotel in Langkawi. Budget at least £100 per person per day for food at the Andaman. You are restricted to eating there and at it's sister hotel the Datai, everywhere else is a drive away. It's not cheap.

Why not consider Pangkor Laut as an option? You can get a meal plan there (all food) for about £60 per person per day when you arrive. It's also a great hotel, and will be similar in price.

That is amazingly expensive for Malaysia. You may want to do it yourself rather than a travel agent. For flights, have you tried travelsupermarket.com? Malaysian Airlines is lovely to fly in although I have to say that I do prefer flying via Emirates due to the break in journey.

For hotels, you could try either wotif.com or asiarooms.com. For KL, I would recommend the area around KLCC, which is a nice area with shopping malls I think the wife would like. 7 days is a really long time for KL. 4 days is ideal really and you could use the rest of the honeymoon for Penang and Langkawi.

Rajuv I live ajoining the Renaissance Hotel. Will pop in this morning and see if any deals going and let you know. Will note your dates and see what kind of offers they will give me. Will also see if they have sister hotel in Langkawi where they could maybe do deal. I take it it is room only basis that is that price when you want to upgrade to B&B.

i have stayed the renaissance hotel in kl. fantastic hotel but get the west wing if you can afford it. much newer and more updated than the east wing.

the breakfast are yummy. and the food was not that expensive. you can walk to loads of places from there, or risk your life in the taxis even though they are dirt cheap some can be v v scarey

Rajuv went across to speak to someone but the deals they had did not go on as far as May and they could not tell me when new ones were coming on..
  • rajuv, the Pangkor Island Beach Resort (3/4 star) is very far removed from removed from Pangkor Laut. One is a bog standard concrete beach resort, and the other is a world class resort (in fact it was Pavarotti's favourite). At Pangkor Laut you can purchase a Meal Plan which includes all your food for about £60 per person per day, a great deal for a 5* hotel. You cannot pre-purchase this.

The prices you are being quoted are not expensive for what you are being quoted for. Its' your honeymoon, surely you want the best within budget? Why you would want to mess around with flying Air Asia, or even Emirates to save a few pounds, stay in inferior hotels beats me.

It's supposedly the best holiday you can have, you only have one (hopefully!). Your budget is £1,750 per person including food, try and get teh best you can within that. Yes you could get 2 weeks flying Air Asia, staying in cheapy rubbish for about £700-£800, but you outlined the Andaman as the minimum standard of accommodation you want, so try seeing if you can do that before you devalue the quality. You are not doing anything wrong by DIYing and getting more expensive prices - the 5*'s in Malaysia contractually offer Tour Operators cheaper prices that you can get elsewhere. You won't price up the Andaman / Datai / Pangkor Laut cheaper yourself getting the components elsewhere. Malaysian Airlines also offer IT (Inclusive Tour fares) cheaper than seat only fares.

As I said - reconsider Pangkor Island Beach Resort. Ask for Pangkor Laut and then budget in the Meal Plan I mentioned. Can you afford that? If not, then yes, the quality will therefore have to be chopped.

I'm just worried you'll end up with far lower standard honeymoon that meets your expectations.
