i just got quoted 1440 pp from kuoni.
that is for 3 nights in kl, 4 nights in penang and 7 days in langkawi
i think this is a bit too much as it only costs £50 for a flight to penang and as tropical collections quoted me 1209pp for 7days at the traders in kl and 7 days in the andaman in langkawi

    I did KL-> Penang-> Langkawi-> KL last year in 2 weeks.

KL is interesting enough but 3 days is probably enough. Chinatown is fun but the new bits could be anywhere in the world. There are a load of top-end hotels near KLCC all at less than grim Blackpool B&B prices. I stopped in the Imperial Hotel (3 nights for about £100 I think) - it was a bit lacking in character but the service and rooms were fantastic (biggest I've ever had anywhere) and the location is great.

I loved Penang. Georgetown is a fantastic town - all Asian hustle and bustle with fantastic food and an amazing mix of cultures. The nearby beaches aren't up to much though. I treated myself there and stopped in the Traders Hotel in an executive club room. It was a bit pokey but still only about £50 a night.

Langkawi (take the ferry from Penang) is totally different. Probably the most relaxing place I have ever been to - ideal for a honeymoon - it's just a very quiet place where nothing much happens, there no real nightlife and everyone seems to go to bed early (taxis stop running at 10pm). I spent a great week just wandering around and hanging out at chilled out beach bars (tax free!), but it's probably not somewhere I'll go back to soon.

The Adamaman is supposed to be great but it's a bit out of the way and there are plenty of other resort hotels elsewhere which are cheaper - but, hey, it's your Honeymoon.

All in All, Malaysia was brilliant. Compared to Thailand it's more organised, calmer and better behaved - but a little more expensive and maybe not quite as much fun. Malaysia it's like Thailand's sensible older brother.

I would definitely try to squeeze Penang into your schedule. It's one of my favourite places anywhere.

For internal flights, Air Asia and Malaysian are both fantasic with rock bottom prices and excellent service.

It might well be cheaper booking everything yourself. I have just looked on Air Asia's website (they are the Asian version of Ryanair - but with good service) and you can fly KL to Penang for £3 each (19 MYR) or Langkawi for £10 (54 MYR). The only word of warning is that Air Asia use the LCTT terminal which is miles away from the main airport. Don't use them to fly back to KL if you have an onward connection.

Booking everything yourself gives you much more flexibility but the downside is that you don't have the protection that you get through a travel agent - which is an important factor when booking a honeymoon. However, if you use main airlines and hotels they are very unlikley to go out of business. Try pricing everything up and see what difference it makes.

In terms of the flights to KL, I would recommend Emirates via Dubai. It's much cheaper than flying direct, their service is excellent and it's nice to be able to stretch your legs and freshen up halfway. Non-stop to KL is a long slog.

    Hi,
totally agree with Doshwater, Emirates are a fab airline and it breaks up the journey too. Also if you fly with them you could perhaps do a stopover in Dubai? Sometimes you get great offers.

I'm flying to KL in 4 weeks and my flight with Emirates from Glasgow was £496, very good prices at the moment. I'm staying with family so no cost but the hotel prices are very good, if booking independently you should be able to get a great hotel for £40-£50 a night. Try hotels in the golden triangle, very central there. Traffic is a bit of a nightmare in KL.

I think it may be an idea to consider booking nearer the time instead of so far in advance unless you do long haul with airasia which I personally don't fancy. Maybe 2-3 months before your wedding? I would seriously doubt that you'd have no chance of getting a flight for a better price than your being quoted right now. Can you tell us the flight only price or is the TA just giving you a price in total?

Again, I think 3 days in KL is sufficient. Lagkawi is great if you just want to completely relax, not much happens at all. Penang is definately more touristy with plenty to see and do, oh and the food is fab!

Let us know how you get on.

    Leanne

P.s. I booked my flight through trailfinders and thought they were fab, got a great deal on a lovely hotel in Phuket too. Always ask the agent what offers are on for early booking etc.

i tried booking the hotels alone but i keep on gettin silly prices e.g 1200 for 7 nights in the langkawi andamans

best price i have got so far is 1209pp with 7 days in kl traders with b&b and 7 nights in andaman langwaki room only.

i got a few qoutes including penang 4days and 3 days in kl but the prices are a bit to much. i have been quoted around 1500pp
the problem is are budget is £1750pp inc spending money

I honestly agree with other posters that said you might struggle for a week in KL.
We were there for about 5 days total and to be honest, we didnt find a great deal to do apart from eating & shopping!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Andaman offers a Stay 7 pay 5 and a complimentary upgrade to Tour Operators, so no joy booking that direct, you'll pay a lot more.

Although it's more expensive overall, Malaysia Airlines includes free Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi flights when you book to Kuala Lumpur. Seemless connections (which you won't get on Air Asia), free food, luggage. Yes you pay a bit more than Air Asia, you get far less stress, and a far better airline. And fly into a better airport.

£1,209 is a very good price. If you want to save money, stay at a cheaper hotel in Langkawi or Kuala Lumpur.

In that case do change your hotel in Langkawi. Budget at least £100 per person per day for food at the Andaman. You are restricted to eating there and at it's sister hotel the Datai, everywhere else is a drive away. It's not cheap.

Why not consider Pangkor Laut as an option? You can get a meal plan there (all food) for about £60 per person per day when you arrive. It's also a great hotel, and will be similar in price.
