    Hi toomuchness,

There's an earlier thread asking the same question that should help so I'll add your post to it so that you can browse the replies.

I use Lidls bread flour, and the yeast varies between Allinsons, Tesco or Asda own brand.:)

Go and get yeast I was told, so I did and apparently it's the wrong sort.

Its Allinsons dried active yeast in a pot.
It says on it, don't use in a breadmaker.

    We use a breadmaker.

Can this be used in any way in the breadmaker, or do I have to buy some more?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • I use that one in my panasonic breadmaker, and never had a problem with it. I do find though that it makes a better loaf if I do a proper time length loaf than a quick loaf, and better still if I put it on the timer over night.
I'd give it a go if I were you before going out to buy any more. The only other one I have bought it Doves (in an orange little bag), that is good, but more expensive.

Do you use it dried or make it up with water first?

I use the tinned Allinsons yeast in my Panasonic and only noticed the warning when I had a few loaves that didn't rise too well a few months ago ( mind I was near the end of the tin). I just bought a new tin to try with no problems since. I hadn't realised dried yeast doesn't last forever! I now make 3-4 loaves a week so I'm using it quite quickly.
