Oh well, I didn't get my way and have to wait for my Panny

Still, on the upside my Doves yest bread was more than a bit scrummy. It didn't rise as well as the mixes but I am going to keep persevering. I think I might need to add a tiny bit more water and see if that improves it.

While I was drooling over, um sorry I mean researching, the Pannies I came across quite a few old posts from people who had bought them cheaply just before Christmas, so in the hope that the same rules will be in play this year I will be keeping a very close eye on the prices.

I think I'm going to get the SD255 as it has a nut dispenser and I'm a sucker for gadgets. If you're spending that much you might as well spend a bit more and have what you really want!
Oh dear, here we go again.

I know this will get merged but I just wanted to flag it up as a new post for a few people to see.

I'm not a fan of Lidls & only go in there once in a blue moon & never to "shop".

I'm new to bread makers. I had a bag of flour when my machine came & it made lovely bread.

When I bought my next loaf I got Allinsons & it wasn't great, so I tried Waitroses own brand, not great either.

Saw a few on here rate Lidls, so went in Saturday & low & behold, there was the mystery loaf I had but didn't know where I had got it. Bought 4 came home & made bread:D

So gotta say, I'm not a fan of Lidls, but their flour makes lovely soft white bread.
  • I'll add this to the existing thread, since it's fallen from the front page of OS.

I have used Lidls bread flour and it is fine .
Also Asdas bread flour in the dark blue bag works well.
Alinsons dried yeast in the yellow coloured tin works very well.

I bought myself an early christmas pressie at the weekend, and got a Panni sd255. Pricey, but as a previous poster said, its worth getting the one you want. I have been using sainsburys bread flour at 79p a bag for 1.5kg, and its been great. The only duff loaf I have had was by putting in yeast that specifically says "not for use in bread machines"....doh!

Supermarkets will give you yeast free of charge if you ask at the bakery counter, {It's illegal for them to sell it as it is a living culture} usually 1/2-2oz but quite often more.

I use Glebe Farm strong malted bread flour (with the lovely grainy bits in) and also their strong white flour, which I pick up at Olney Farmers Market.

Like many posters on the thread, I use Doves Farm yeast.

I have been making hm bread for well over a year now, tried all the flours and prefer Carrs. I also use Doves yeast. But never had great success with wholemeal flours.

I do my loaves using half malted flour and half white. You get the lovely taste and texture, but the inclusion of some white flour seems to make it lighter.

Sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs, just thought it might be something to try.:o
