Happy birthday mioliere :bdaycake:
Penny Pincher - your DD is in YEAR 10? Nooooooooooooooo. Oh gosh, I remember when she had just started secondary school. Sorry to hear about OH.
It was back to school for me today and the children arrive tomorrow. I think that I'm about ready for them. Oh go on, just a few more days off...
thriftlady - thanks for that website. Those potatoes look divine, and I've got all the ingredients! Thank goodness for the large rosemary bush in the back garden planted by a previous occupant!
Supper for us wasn't anywhere near as exciting, but it was genuine Lincolnshire sausages (all the way from Lincolnshire! Left over from my mum's party.), jacket potatoes and baked beans. Classy, I know!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
This is the type of cake mix they're calling for. I don't see why you couldn't just use a mix for sponge. They're basically the same thing. I sure wouldn't pay the cost listed on that site!:eek: There are only 4 Betty Crocker cake mixes here versus many different ones in the states. They're fairly inexpensive in the states so I suppose a lot more people use mixes than to bake from scratch.thriftlady wrote: »And I'm dying to try the Dump Cake if only I could find the right kind of cake mix:eek: I've never bought cake mix before, but I just love the look of this recipe and I love the way she writes about it.
Thanks much for sharing the Pioneer Woman site. It's fab and I have plans to explore it further tomorrow.

Thank you Peyton, that's great:T. I will look for an ordinary sponge mix. Cake mixes are uncharted territory for me, but sometimes it's fun to rebel. Not sure when I'm going to try the dump cake -possibly something to do with the kids next holiday.
Meant to say to Penny Pincher -my ds1 has just started y10 too. I remembered that he and your dd were in the same year. It's frightening how time flies isn't it?0 -
I see you are all talking about something called Pioneer Woman. I dont know if you have heard of it but Channel 4 a few years ago showed a US series like Big Brother on the wild Frontier where families had to live like in Little House On the Prairie. They even did a book which I found in our local library. Youtube might have some clips or episodes if anyone is interested. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I know this is an old thread but I noticed what thriftylady was saying about bus passes in Worcester. My child also has to use the buses around Worcester. We have found that if you buy a weekly bus pass on the number 35 service it only costs £4.50 instead of £8. As she goes through the centre of town anyway, she simply jumps on the 35, buys her pass and gets off at the next stop. No real inconvenience and £3.50 saved each week. She also gets the benefit of being involved in the money saving, never too early to start.Originally Posted by thriftlady
Both sons have left for school. I shall take dd to school in about 15 mins (7 min walk). It costs £8 for both boys to catch the bus to school and back each week. It would be cheaper to drive them. I think that's disgraceful! They will continue to use the bus because I believe it is good for them to make their own way to school and it means there is one less car clogging up Worcester roads during the rush hour but it is annoying that it costs so much.Debt balance at LBM, 6/6/2008 = £13,946.53 +£14,000 fixed term loan
