Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 7th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning all
hgballoons.gifMioliere honey! bdaycake2.gif Hope you have a fabulous day!
Don't you worry about your neighbours when you have your washing machine on?
Morning, RE Washing machines that are noisy and neighbours, I think it is considerate to wait until 10 a.m. although 9 a..m would be fine by me
No worries here, as the kitchen is at the other end of my place and the houses are built with both kitchens adjoining, so our bedrooms are the furthest distance from the kitchens as is possible. I wouldn't use it so early if I thought it would disturb anyone. When you stand in our kitchen you cannot hear their washing machine so I know they can't hear ours. Great to see you both posting on the Daily btw! :D
Vicky - great news about your mum! It's been 9 yrs for me (4 yrs since the 5yr sign off) but I still remember the relief I felt and the look on my OHs face. I am so happy for you all.hugs.gif
Bargainbird - so did you go? Was it fun?
Sistercas - I thought it was you and I am really pleased you like it. :D The bank at the front once cleared will be planted up with lots of lavender (at the moment being nurtured in several pots on the patio!) and purple spring bulbs plus the purple hebe that is already there. Can you tell the theme.. :rotfl:
Grandmasam - Hope you find the mouse soon.. though I am guessing if you don't see it, you might smell it in a few days:rotfl:
Stefj - Glad to read you again honey and sorry to be so dense but what is a NQT?
Essex - thank you very much xx
My OH found a bargain in Tescos yesterday - 6 huge muslin squares in the baby section for just £3.. They are so big I have cut them into four, so the value keeps going!
Spent a couple of hours in the garden yesterday and got some winter bedding plugs all planted up and emptied a couple of tubs of the straggly summer flowers, so the patio looks a lot tidier now. Thank you all for the kind comments on the fence and garden.
I have a lot of cooking to do this week so in a way I hope the sun doesn't shine or I will be out in the garden instead. I want to try cheese and onion pasties and some more corned beef ones, hobnobs for the OH and bread pudding if I can remember to defrost the bread, plus a weetabix loaf as we tried value weetabix from Tescos and my OH hates it!
Hope your week starts well. Warm gentlehugs.gif for anyone who wants one!

Hi MSD and thanks for the birthday wishes! I forgot until I took my first sip of tea! Had a great meal out with friends yesterday and came back with a beautiful hibiscus plant for the garden, and a bottle of champagne. Would have opened it yesterday but we had already had a couple of glasses of wine, so I'm saving it. It's my DS1's birthday, too, so I shall be Skyping him later today.

We haven't really made plans for today but DH has taken the day off so, if it's nice, we shall take a picnic lunch out to a lovely lake resort we found recently. If the weather's not so good, I shall probably be helping him convert the attic into another bedroom - we have friends coming to stay in a couple of weeks and they will have our downstairs bedroom because the husband has arthritis and we don't want him to have to cope with our very steep stairs!

We were out for most of the day yesterday, so I didn't get a chance to catch up with the thread. I hope everyone had a good weekend. I see on the forecast that the UK will have good weather in the second half of the week, so I hope everyone gets some of it.

Well, I'll catch up with you all later.

    Morning all,

Happy Birthday Moiliere :bdaycake: I expect you've already been given your present ala Hester. :D

Had to replenish my biscuit tin this morning so made a slice. Washed down the kitchen cupboards & did a few loads of washing. It's been forecast rain for the next few days (we'll see ). XDIL had her baby yesterday. Little girl who she called Chloe Louise. She weighed 9 lbs. Both doing well & she's coming out of hospital tomorrow. I bought a pink congratulations card ages ago. :D Apparently DGS is smitten.

Bingo tonight. Tomorrow I'm going through our clothes. Time to pack away the winter stuff etc & sort out the summer gear.

    Vicky That's great news.
Ruby Yes, it's very similar to bread & butter pickles.
MSD Loved the fence & once the bank is done will look lovely in purple hues & the smell of lavender.

Well coffee is drained so I best make tracks. Hope you enjoy your Monday. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

:j Happy Birthday Mioliere, have a fantastic day :j:beer:

Monday already, hate mondays now. Anyway will be in the office most of the time, at least all morning, loads to get done. Think is meant to be quite nice weather here so the washing machine is already on (neighbours cant hear it :D) & think will wash the towels after.

DS is off to Judo tonight so the rest of us will have pork kebabs with onion rice as its not his favourite & he will have something like egg on toast when he comes in.

Loadsa ironing to do but have lots of good shows on sky+ so will get the pile reduced this afternoon. House is still clean and tidy, will s&s all the bathrooms this morning & hoover later if necessary. Determined to keep on top of it now.

Have a good day whatever you are up to.x

    Morning all,

Kathy :bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday hun, have a great day, Happy Birthday to your ds too xxx

We this is the first time I have been up this early for at least six weeks :o, back to school today, I need to get dd up in 5 mins.

We sat up last night and watched phonecalls from the twin towers, which was amazingly moving, you tend to forget that there were so many poor familys involved.

Made lemon drizzle cake yesterday, and some cookies, OH mowed the lawn, but did not get round to hoovering the cars, so thats on my list for today, along with several loads of washing, and a good clean through.

Later on we are off to have a second look at a house, so I will prep dinner for when we get back, OH and i are having steak, which I got YS in mr T a while ago, I have some nice muchrooms to use up, and I think I may do a cauli cheese, and mash and onions with it.

OK well think thats me for now, although I have noticed a chill in the air this morning, and my thoughts auomatically turn now to Christ**s :D

    Have good days all xx

  • Good morning all!
    Happy birthday Mioliere!
Well its my dd's first day at school today. Pack lunch is made-I just need to get her up and sorted. Shes very excited but I'm expecting her to be clingy when we get there, despite having been to nursery for four years.
After a mass cooking session yesterday morning-twinks, chocolate bun, jam tarts and mini meatloaves plus the lunch, I'm planning a mass tidy up and clean today. I had planned to tackle the garden this week but the house is a right state so that'll come first.
Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning everyone.

Mioliere - Happy Birthday - hope it's a good day for you!!

Nic1lou2 - Enjoy jury service. Never had to do it myself - lets hope you get something vaguely interestering as I couldn't sit through tax evasion case I'd be nodding off!!!

Having one of my friends children over for about an hour whilst her mum settles her into reception this morning.
DD is in a right whingy mode this morning. Never mind washing machines my poor neighbour has to contend with the noise of my kids!!!!
Dinner is in SC. It's Sausage casserole with onion, pepper, leek, tinned toms and carrot. It smells delish so hope it tastes as good too.
I might do some more baking today kids permitting. I went shopping yesterday (never again on a Sunday at 2pm - it was rammed!) and bought some more eggs so now have a fair few to use up.
Washing all up to date, ironing not though. But no way I can iron with the kids about so that's a job saved til they are in bed. Need to take DS to get a couple of polo shirts for nursery, hope the shop is quiet now kids should be back at school today. Got to ring a friend too this morning and chase up HMRC about being self employed. I registered online but I've heard nothing and it was 6 weeks ago. Need to make sure I am paying the right NI contributions.
Right off the check out the Flylady thread.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all

MSD - an NQT is a Newly Qualified Teacher - second career for him.
Nic1lou2 - good luck with the jury service - when you get into court take special note of the person with the stupid collar but no wig who calls out your name, gets you to swear or affirm, and reads out the indictment .... and then you'll know how i spend my working day :)
happy birthday to the lovely Mioliere - hope its a good one

Well nearly ready for w*rk - dds have both left - youngest in a state of high excitement as it's her first day back at school so good luck to all the others going back today especially if it's a new school. tea tonight is pork chops and whatever veggies are lurking in the fridge

    have good days
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

Can I join in too, please?

It's my son's 13th birthday today. A teenager! He was the "little" baby at a mere 8lbs 4oz and always the cuddliest and the cutest with his little blonde corkscrew curls. Now he's three inches taller than me and plays prop forward on the rugby field ...but he's still got the curls, lol. How time flies.

Today I am going to prep the front door for painting. It was new two years ago but the painter did not do a great job and there is resin bleeding through the paint! I'm going to have to sand it back at these points, put some knotting solution on and reprime and paint it. PITB really. I'd get him back to do it properly but he's died, and also I need so much other painting done at the moment I feel I've got to do all the bits I can reach easily myself. Front door and vestibule this week for a start, then start thinking about the kitchen and bathroom.

Need to make bread and some banana loaf to use up the spotty bananas, but otherwise it's a no cooking day. got plenty in the freezer. Kids went back to school three weks ago, so I have a clear day. Son had his party on Saturday so he's not expecting any more cake or whatever today...we're stuffed with party leftovers. Hate painting though. Wish me luck!
    Val.
