3 is the cheapest, but is it best

Interesting WBB.
Does it also tempt your phone to show the "roaming" icon ?0 -
From what I've read, Orange 2G is currently still avaliable in the highlands and islands and some remote bits of Wales, but that's it. I don't know where you are though WBB, it could be more areas than that.0

Where I live isn't that remote. Just the valleys. The reason why 3G coverage (from all networks) is poor is because of the mountains and the fact the 2100Mhz band used for 3G is more affected by them.
2G roaming is also still available in parts of devon. Can't give exact areas, but I certainly still get it on the train from Exeter to Barnstaple.2sides2everystory wrote: »Interesting WBB.

I don't think the iPhone does show a roaming icon?0 -
Not sure if this is the correct place to air this but have any other Three customers been repeatedly contacted by a company called Telefonex in Rochdale claiming to be Three and attempting to sell a new contract. I said no the first few times but last week received a call that was totally convincing with the salesrat claiming to be from Three themselves. Only when I received my new phone did I see the name Telefonex on the contract. Of course it's going back but first I have to call a premium rate number to get a Returns Authorisation number. Isn't this against the Distance Selling Regulations? I don't understand why I can't just return it. It is a clear case of mis-selling if ever I saw one. Shouldn't they also have to refund my Special Delivery/courier costs as well.
I would like to know how they came to have my details and knew that my old contract had expired - I was happy to keep on a monthly contract on my old phone but was led to believe that it was not an option. Surely Three have contravened the Data Protection Act in allowing my details to be given to a 3rd party.
Any one else have a similar story?0 -

Oh yes I'm well aware of the troubles 3 have with their 3G2100 network, it's the same reason Vodafone and O2 have such good coverage on the 2G900 network.
I can entirely see why they've done it, and in the big cities and towns I can't see it being an issue, at all. I'm on a Vodafone contract atm and I've come from an Orange one and if I'm in town I never see a 2G icon. The mistake I think they've made is turning it off where their coverage is much more marginal. Out here, as I think I've said before on this forum, alot of the villages have a 3 mast, but as soon as you get out of the village there's nothing for miles. That's where the problem lies, that's where 3 should have left roaming in place.0 -

Vodafone UK
hi Heidi
Thanks for the offer but we've come to the conclusion our place is beyond good reliable mobile reception, all the networks have a gap over our house on their coverage checkers. Without going in to too much detail we live in the dead centre of a big park and no one has a mast that nearby to cover the centre well, add that to the really thick walls of the old house and it just doesn't work out well for us. It's alright though, our phones have enough reception to text message people and use as phones and as we are at home we use wifi for the internet instead of the mobile connection. It wouldn't be viable for you guys as a company to improve the reception there just so one person can get HSPA speeds when she can use wifi anyway, if it was that bad we would have to invest in the signal booster that you offer. My more pressing concern is that our home broadband is nowhere near as fast as it should be but that's for someone else to deal with. It just means as mobile customers we seem limited to vodafone for very reliable and o2 based networks for fairly reliable, three is an absolute no go as the phone would just be unusable for calls.
Again thanks for the offer, nice to see a big company having a more personal touch to things :j0 -
Hi everett_psycho,
Ok no problem. I am pleased to hear that you can still use your phones to make calls and send texts.
If you change your mind and wish to get in touch with me, you are more than welcome to any time.
Best wishes,
Heidi

You will not be suprised to hear that '3' themsleves sell our details to such companies. I got caught out many years ago, it taught me not to even discuss upgrades etc with anyone who phones me, even though they could in fact be from '3'. I contact '3' direct via the 333 number.0 -
I am stunned. My wife is (was) on 3 and had problems with reception at home with her nokia e5. It went away for a fix, had a new sim card and today she called customer services to try and resolve the problem. They admitted the phone was the problem and a replacement e5 would be the same but would not replace it with another model. Well they offered an old nokia model you can buy for £30 at a higher monthly rate and 6 months added to the contract. When her disgust was apparent they offered to end her contract. 10 months left and they chose to end it rather than give her a phone that works. Amazing but incredibly inept customer service. She will now leave 3, never go back (I was thinking about them but not now) all for the sake of swapping the phone and keeping her on contract. She even offered to take a new contract with a new phone but no, they just cut and ran. Amazed she got this resolution considering some other peoples experience but what strange and damaging customer service.0
