3 is the cheapest, but is it best

  • Handset: Sony K660i

    Most commonly used location: Manchester

Ease and reliability and connection: Absolutely terrible

    Any other problems:
    • They charge £20 or more to downgrade your contract, which you normally end up doing just to see it out as cheaply as possible, otherwise pay hefty cancellation fee.
    • They tell you to send your phone for repair but don't offer you a replacement for the 3-7 days they are working on it, or offer you a reduction in tarrif for that month
    • Call centre staff repeatedly tell you thet you have a perfect signal when you quite clearly don't. Very patronising when they are sat at a desk thousands of miles away telling you that your signal is good
Overall service and rating (out of 10): 0 out of 10

It cannot even be called a service when you lose calls every 30 seconds. I end up calling people back from a landline on their mobiles so probably add another £30 to by landline bill per month too. Yes I get 1100 minutes, but the most I've ever managed to use (not for lack of trying) is around 200.

STAY WELL CLEAR - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
  • I tried calling the people at Ofcom as previous posts suggested, but unfortunately they only have the standard number for 3 which takes you to the call centre 000's of miles away.

Does anybody have the telephone number for the UK executive?

If I don't have any luck by the end of the day today I am going and standing in their doorway at my local store and warning their potential customers about how bad they are - all day tomorrow.

Sounds a bit sad, but otherwise I'd spend that time on the phone to them anyway trying to sort this out, plus this way I get much more satifaction.

Infact how would people think about staging a national consumer action day against 3? Basically on the same day we get 1 or 2 people to go and stand outside each of their stores and warn every customer about how bad they are? Post here if you are interested....

    Hi guys....

I was on Three's website last night and saw something about "a big announcement, come back tomorrow at 10am for more details"

    Did anyone else see that?

When I went back this morning there wasn't anything on there....

    Hello lovelies,

I've always thought that 3 was the cheapest network, until recently when I found a fantastic deal for my daughter on T Mobile. It's the cheapest deal I've ever seen... just £6.67 a month! Pocket money prices, or what?

I got my daughter a pink handset free on this deal and wanted to share this great offer with other people too.

I found it at this website http://www.eyeforabargain.co.uk/Mobile-Phones.html

Hope it helps you as much as it helped me!

3 almost drove me to the point of insanity earlier this year.

me and my boyfriend both took out contracts with 3 last year and both got exactly the same phone.

the service was never great at our home in south shields - the signal bars never reached more than 2 out of 5 and we couldn't connect to the internet at home, but towards the end of last year, the signal suddenly became terrible - the phones had one bar of signal at best or were stuck on emergency calls only. any calls which did come through would invariably drop off.

we took the phones back to the store we bought them from and were served by the same guy who sold us our contracts - which, bear in mind, requires them to take your address details from you. he took our details, typed our address into the system and then told us we lived in a really poor area with the nearest mast over 2 miles away and that we'd be much better off going with 02!!

he couldn't cancel the contract for us as he said that they could only do that if you rang the call centre.... cue two weeks of more than a dozen phonecalls and approximately 5 exasperating hours on the phone to india where they would keep telling me that "their engineers are looking into the problem and are working to rectify it" - despite me telling them that they weren't going to be able to erect a mast near my house overnight - or that my "problem had been escalated to the first line customer support who would ring me within 24 hours" and who never called me, with the exception of one person who did ring me and then told me that i didn't have a problem with my phone as he could hear me perfectly well - not understanding when i repeatedly told him that this was because i was 8 miles away from my home and in a city centre location at the time!

eventually i got so fed up that i went to the 3 store closest to my house to see if anyone else nearby had the same problem, which lo-and-behold, they had. however, they insisted that the only way we could proceed with getting out of the contract was to have our phones sent off for repair - even though we didn't have any issues with the phones when we were out and about. i grudgingly agreed to this and in the meantime contacted our trading services department to see if there was anything we could do about it.

when the phones came back from being 'repaired' we still had the same issues so told our local store that we'd spoken to trading services. they immediately put through a request to the glasgow head office to have our contracts cancelled, though we also had to confirm their request in writing for some reason.

we sent our requests through, and within a couple of days, our phones were disconnected and we moved to 02, who have been fantastic!

however, 3 then sent us bills to cover the few days between our last bill and the disconnection date. we both paid our bills by sending a cheque, only for a few weeks later to receive two more bills from them...

they said that my boyfriend apparently didn't have to pay them a bill last time (despite the fact that they had sent him a bill requesting a set amount of money by a certain date!) so his balance was now in credit. they also said that i still owed them 1 penny after paying my last bill. i went back and checked the last bill they sent me and also the cheque they cashed, both of which were for the correct amount, but their new bill reckoned that i had owed them a penny more... i'm now in arguments with them again to get our money back and to cancel the random outstanding penny which seems to have appeared from nowhere!

they are an absolute NIGHTMARE to deal with.

Anyone seen their 6 month contracts? £15 per month for 300 mins ot texts. If i can get cashback from a cashback site im tempted to sign up. I was with 3 until December 2007, i had a better signal than Orange where i live, tho i think that it was cause they used O2 for 2G calls when there was no 3G signal.

From January 2007, Three used Orange as its 2G network, so if you had a better signal with Three it was more than likely because you were connected to 3's own network.

I did that's why I asked. As I said from summer 08 not Jan 07. Before that for years it was fine.
