OMG, the trip advisor reviews get worse!! Beks you are well out of it, just to think at the begining of this thread you were still thinking of using the venue!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

Sorry to be driving people mad - I never thought I would have to keep stum for this long
!!!! Believe me, all I want to do is go public but for once, I am listening to those a little wiser than me and keeping quiet ... for now
.
Franny - yes, I am well out of it. Could not even consider it now, I am now glad that I haven't just started reading the reviews with our wedding coming up in July, then we would really be in a pile of !!!!!. With 70% terrible reviews on trip advisor, I think that says a lot. I wouldn't mind quite so much if half the comments were not directed at the arrogance and rudeness of the manager/owner and his inability to admit to problems and put them right. It is disgraceful that anyone can run a business (particularly a wedding one) like this.
Horace - OH has gone sailing around antigua with his ex-servicemen charity (an all amputee boat - its a regular occurence for him!!). Think there will be an article in the sunday mirror about it this weekend or next.
Steph - glad your tummy bug is better - maybe you should rebook .. maybe mothers day for your whole family! You could make a day of it!!0 -

I'm waiting with baited breath for the outcome of this Beks. I'm sure it'll be a good one for you both. I've just read the updated reviews on trip advisor. Oh my God!!! Surely Health and Safety should be involved! How on earth are these people getting away with this?!!!! Someone really ought to be reporting them. How no-one has come down with some dreadful illness is a mystery. Thank God things turned out the way they did for you (apart from all the stress and upset of course!) Imagine your wedding going ahead in such a disgusting place. I'm sure it won't be long now before you have your money back and you can show this awful man for the rat he is. And rat is the right word, judging by the comments about the state of the place and standards of hygiene!!!
Well done for doing what you're doing. You have so much support here and if you go ahead with going public you could be saving many other couples from going through what you have and what the poor brides and grooms who have actually had their weddings there have gone through. I feel so sorry for them. What a lucky escape you've had!!0 -
Ellbee - thank you for your post. Yes, the majority of me is relieved that we wont be getting married at this awful venue. I have contacted the most recent review and they would be willing to do a press release with me once the time is right for us. There is also a group of 3 others who have sued the venue (all for the same reason) and got their money back (when the owner failed to respond they also won by default). They did not get to the bailiffs stage but he did not owe them £5000 so could figure why he paid them and not us. I have been speaking to one of the three tonight and he thinks they will all be willing to make statements to the press against the venue.
I do feel fortunate now and I am grateful not to be getting married there but, don't get me wrong, I am still fuming that I cannot look to the future. Time seems to be really dragging and although I have plenty going on, not a minute goes by that i don't start dwelling on this. It is worse with OH away because I cannot ring the courts myself to get any more information and I cannot fume at him about the whole thing!!! It just seems that we have been waiting since September and nothing has really happened except we have had to part with more and more money through the courts. There is just no need for all of this and it could have been resolved with such less stress.
Oh well, I will go back to twiddling my thumbs ..... :rotfl:
ETA: Found further information (on another website) that their latest annual turnover was £2.2million. In that case £5000 should be a drop in the ocean surely?!!!0 -
It'll be so good if the other people make statements with you. I bet there are hundreds of other people who have gone through this and had their wedding days ruined, not realising he makes a regular habit of it. His golfing 'guests' (if they actually exist!) seem to find the venue acceptable though.
You sound pretty much like me, dwelling on it and not being able to move forward until its resolved so I know how you feel!!! (Not that I've gone through what you're going through. The wedding was okay it was the divorce that was a nightmare!!!!!) Anyway, all better now and very happy with my lovely daughters and grandchildren!!!I guess we have to meet a few rats along the way to appreciate all the good people in our lives and the nice things that happen. You just can't believe how anyone can be as stupid as this man, not once but several times it seems!!! In fact, he reminds me of an ex landlord we had - he ripped us off over our deposit and I was heading for the courts but gave up when my best friend was diagnosed with cancer and died. The landlord even had a 'sun terrace' built on the back of the bungalow we had rented without getting planning permission!! Apparently he believed he didn't need it. The neighbours reported him and he, like the manager at your venue, failed to respond to any legal documents. I don't know what happened in the end. The arrogance of these people is beyond belief!!!
Anyway, changing the subject slightly, but still remaining on the wedding theme, did you see My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on Channel 4 on Thursday? Apparently they have to keep the reception venue a secret from their guests until the last minute because often the venues cancel when they find out the wedding party are gypsies. A thought occurred to me............. I wonder if 'your' manager would like a gypsy wedding? They certainly wouldn't put up with such rude and unacceptable behaviour and poor quality service. He'd certainly meet his match with them!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

It would be great if he had a load of gypsies turn up and camp on his golf course and in his carpark.
Beks - I hope your OH enjoys sailing around Antigua..I wish I was there now instead of stuck in the snow.0
