Wedding venue problems - want to cancel.

Hope Companies House info doesn't suggest impending bankruptcy! Would you be counted as a creditor if you are waiting for a return deposit on an event you have cancelled, I wonder?
Usually once secured creditors and employees get paid, and the IP has taken their fees, there's often nothing left for unsecured creditors.0 -

Its difficult to tell lol!! He hasn't submitted anything for 2 years (I think)!! I think in 2007 he owed the bank approx £500k but he did have assets to his name too (four or five pubs!). Who knows what has happened in the last 2 years!!
ETA: Yes, JCS1, you are right from what I have been reading up on!0 -
I used to work for the Official Receiver
But from the 2007 accounts, I doubt unsecured creditors would get a penny.
His mortgage is near enough the same value as the properties, so the assets would cover the bank debt and that's it.0 -
I don't think they are looking at bankruptcy at all, they've just made a big public commitment to 'certain' events (sorry keeping it vague on purpose) which will bring in more of similar business. This case will be no more than a blip for him, considering how many other weddings and events he puts on, he gets away with it because the venue is lovely and most people won't think to check review sites.
ETA The resturant side of the business is booming and very popular!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

Yeah, I hope you are right. I don't get why he wont just give the money back in that case though! If £5k is nothing to him then and a blip, it wont make any difference to give it back?!!!
Yes, now you have made me think about 'certain' events in the future. Didnt think of that - and not seen any big public commitment *toddles off to google*!!!
All quiet our end, just completed CCJ form to go against his name which was forwarded by court.0 -

Aha, never said it was 'nothing' but giving your money back is a 'blip' to him
Having dated a business man for quite a few years, I know full well that 5k in his bank will stay until the last possible moment, most businesses balance on an account which uses credit, better to spend the banks money than their own. So that 5k will be played against his bills etc until such time that keeping it 'cost' him in terms of bad credit/ccj etc. He was never going to just hand it over until such time he 'has' to give it back
ETA, have a look at his 'news' page on website:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Sorry to be so nosey, but I have been reading this from the beginning and would love to know the venue. Would someone please pm me?:o0

Well in a few days time he will have a brand new CCJ in his name to be proud of!! Added it to his home address thanks to JCS1 lol!!!!
Oh yeah, Franny you soooo are well informed!! No idea how you found this so quickly. Found this out myself a few days ago!!! He is not the only venue in the area doing this though. I have been trying to work out what/where this has been taken from though as it is in third person and not in the local papers (there is always the possibility he made it up himself).
Poet, I have to keep quiet I am afraid! For lots of reasons but I will publish as soon as I can so everyone will know.0 -
